Looking for a good compact camera

Post by kendoman »

Hello,

I am looking for suggestions for a good compact camera to take while traveling. I am not doing any type of short or doc, just good old tourism 8) . Please let me know which is your favorite and why.

Thanks

You might try one of the "Silver" Nizo cameras.

I personally like the S560, it has auto and manual exposure, time lapse, two speed power zoom, a nice lens, and a variable shutter (for long exposures at night)...and its small enough to carry around. Oh and it exposes 64T correctly. The later S561 is easier to use, but with the same features.

I used to have an Elmo Super 103, which is tiny by super 8 standards...handycam size. It only had a 3x zoom and auto exposure, but it would expose 64T correctly. Sadly I dropped it and totally screwed the viewfinder path.

If it could accelt 64T I'd recommend the Canon 514xl...lovely little camera (if noisy). You can use it by utilising the exposure lock, or you could use B&W or neg film exposing at 160ASA...but its not 64T compatible and has no manual exposure.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter :)

I really like the Bauer C700 XLM and C900 XLM. They are both reliable workhorses, lightweight, small and have some features that only some higher models have. I take the 900 often on trips when my "big ones" are not practical.

I got a Canon 514 at a thrift store for $5. If you just want a cheapie that works, it's hard to beat that.
I may sound stupid, but I hide it well.

Some of the tiny Single 8 cameras, so small you can fold 'em up and stick em in your pocket?

Yeah! Fujica Single-8 P2, I'm bringing it everyday, focus free... good for snapshot purpose.

514XL is another one I recommend, but it reads 64T to 160, so the imagine will goes under, use the EE lock to adjust is the only or best way.

I used to have a Chinon Pocket 8, but the lens gone otherwise it would be very handy and lighter than a digital camera.
