correcting exposure with bleach...?

Hi,
I have a bunch of heavily underexposed color film. A friend suggested unwinding the entire reels, and dunking it for a few seconds in a solution of half bleach, half water. Has anyone tried this sucessfully?

All this will do is decay the image, not increase detail in it. I don't recommend this at all unless the footage means little to you. If your going to digital, try to fix it in post.
