A NEW super-8 cam might be on the market.

Check out this stuff. It's the second article on the page. A new double super-8 camera would be nice.

Really?
The DS8 version will carry a list price of € 5,200
Sounds like lunacy to me... I´d rather buy a Beaulieu top model and get it serviced by Bjorn Andersson and save something like €4000. 8O

i thought kodak was trying to phase out double-perf 16mm film. wouldn't you need that for this kind of camera?

I dont know why you'd have to slit the film after processing. Couldnt you just regate a 16mm telecine or projector and run it through twice??? The camera seems like a good idea. I like the idea. Would I buy one?? I might if I thought I could make some money with it. Id really like to see some footage in digital form.

Wrong perf size.

It should look just like 100D in Super 8, only steadier. The camera rocks. I hope they make a go of it.

I also love that the article beneath the DS8 article is about slot cars, my other diminuitive love.

Running it twice means more dust and dirt on the film...

Just look at any super8 footage with the correct emulsion and disregard any jitter or unsteady images. 8)

Well, that makes three among a posters audience of 25-35. videofred and super8man are the others.

Isn't double super-8 cheaper? I mean, you're not paying a premium on the short load and cartridge after all. Also, you'd be limited on where you could process it because not everybody can slit the film but you'd probably pay less on processing too. And 10 minutes per load is also a nice thing, less waste. Besides, of all the formats that NEED better registration, it would be super-8, which BTW consistantly has the worst registration of all formats. I think it's a great idea. Of course I don't have $7,000 to buy one, or even $6,000 to buy a pre-ordered one. I'll stick with my $300 1014E but if I had the money.......

OK, I see now I read the article wrong. It read, 16mm wide film, and I read it as 16mm film. Makes more sense that way.

They said they need to presell 25 cameras to produce it. I wonder how many orders they've gotten already.

They've been working on this awhile havent they???

incorrect. in numerous posts i have come across recently while doing research on this website, "mitch perkins" often describes himself as being in his late 40's, poor, and digs through garbage bins for computer parts. i'm only stating the facts of his own descriptions of himself and his activities.

This camera is a pointless exercise, as modern filmstocks are normally unavailable in the double super 8 format. Also, as has been pointed out quite logically, there are sources to aquire "rebuilt as new" super 8 cameras of professional design at a fraction of the cost. They will not succeed in aquiring enough orders.

??? living up to your nickname ?
the most pointless remark in many months I recall. On and off topic.
I just remark there are three persons in a very limited group who have the same interest in an 'obscure' extra hobby.
Kind regards,

LOL! Not only that, but I long ago sold my track, and yet dare to profess love! I did keep the cars I put together from cut-up SCX F1 chassis and 1/32 scale street car models.

Tip: Easy-off oven cleaner safely removes automotive laquer from little plastic cars. Just let it sit, then peel off paint in sheets.

Personal stats update: I turn 44 tomorrow, have all the computers I need, and am exceedingly rich in all areas save finance.

Thanks for the interest.

Though modern filmstocks are normally unavailable in the double super 8 format, a new camera represents an approach not to any particular format, but rather to the feasibility of relatively economical, technically acceptable film capture. "New" is, in one sense at least, the antithesis of "normal".
