kodachrome processing, feedback needed.

hi ya guys, i need feed back on quality aspects of kodak swiss and dwaynes... horror stories etc..
i am speaking with kodak in the states next week.
i can tell you the big yellow one is having an internal revue of problems,with k40 processing a major problem seems to be the age of the machines....so please post any comments thanks...

I have only shot one cartridge of film since Novemeber. But it took me 50 hours of filming to shoot it! I shot Ektachrome and was happy with the result.

I am a bit nervous about shooting Kodachrome if the shoot I am doing will either take a lot of filming hours to complete or if I were to be paid to shoot. I am very interested as well to hear from those who are shooting Kodachrome.

My K40 has been coming back nicely processed. One worry when a film took a month to come back.

I worry about criticisms of Kodak on this Forum. They seem to be doing a good job. Only when my filming has been at fault have the results been at fault. Stop nit picking and support Kodak - if K40 stops, S8 stops.

I haven't had any problems with Kodak the past year. Good service, fast turn around and good images. Nothing to complain about.

I agree with Tim on the Kodak complain matter. There are too many false rumours flying around in here...

Never had a problem with the K40 Kodak processing in Switzerland ever. No dirt - no other artifacts on film. Just plain joy since early 1980s.

Only problem was the jittery cartridges.
Turnaround time 3-1 weeks. Now typically 2-1.5

Only this which may not be processing related:
One out of 3 precious sound carts disappeared during the processing game around 1990.

If you have a chance I would like you to ask them or discuss if they can manufacture silent K40 film in sound cartridges (guess there is no use to ask for sound striped film?) and all other films they release for that matter beacuse it improves image stability to as good as it can be - at least on my canon 1014 XL-S. The Sound cart design may be a much better option in terms of stability in my view. Vital point: Allows a lower open loop/slack which controls the jitter problem which is a factor with silent cartridges.

I used Dwaynes recently and I am going to start using them whenever I process a roll.

Turnaround was about a week, including shipping time.

Another advantage to incorporating sound cartridges with silent film is that one could "flash" their film while it was still in the camera!

I too agree that it would be good to separate fact from friction.

there's always the blue spots problem, which i've had on three carts over the years, but i think we've established that those happen in storage and not developing...

Shot a lot of K40 over the last months and they were all processed in Lausanne properly with no mistakes at all. Also always have a turnaround time of 7 business days! Just like in the good old days....

Thought I detected some new jittery cartridges last time, but it was only a new camera in my shaking hands. Still kind of behaving like a child with recently aquired equipment... :oops:

Sorry but I can't remember the day I had not blue spots on an entire cartridge... Last summer, I did some shooting with friends on vacation, nothing important but when the film came back, seems that KODAK forget to devellop a layer of my K40 shots. I liked it but was happy too that it did not happened for an important shoot.

Then june last year have I processing 62 cartridges S-8 K-40 in Switzerland with no problem.
And I agree with Tim and Andreas here are too many false rumours flying around.

I just sent my first roll away. It's been about a month

I'm waiting to see how this one will turn out before I shoot my other rolls to make sure I'm doing everything right. Sort of annoying.... I have so much anticipation!!

Enjoy the anticipation! You won't get that feeling with video. This is one of the things I like most about Super 8.

i sent off 3 rolls to switzerland and they came back in 20 days. 5 days later i sent 3 more rolls and they have yet to come back. I'm getting anxious cause i dont know what's going on, but hey, what can I do about it? I best be getting my film back is all i know.
