I don't know if any of you ever saw any of Helen's movies but they were great...Her book was pretty funny too.
I used to run into her from time to time at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and she was an amazing filmmaker.
Hopefully her films will continue to flicker across the screen.
Good Luck

holy s***.
i used to live down in new orleans where she held cameraless animation classes and other filmmaking screenings. such a tragedy. I have a book she compiled, but didnt publish, on cameraless animation, home processing and amateur movie making in general. I should get around to scan and upload it.

I know...It hit me like a ton of bricks.
I heard on the news that a "Filmmaker" had been murdered in New Orleans and didn't think about it--Then I heard it was Helen Hill and it just whacked me. SHe was a really great person and I remember that un-published book. She used to peddle it around with her.
She was one of the last exprimental filmmakers in the vain of Brakhage and Vanderbeek all wrapped up into one.
Good Luck

I read the announcement on Onsuper8.org. It's incredibly sad. I've never even met her, but she seems like that kind of amazing person and filmmaker that you would WANT to know. I wonder if they'll put together any of her work, maybe for a website or travelling retrospective?
