Broken Light meter, Nizo s 800, what now?

Post by PatrickMcMahon »

I recently got hold of a nizo s 800, sadly the lightmeter appears cracked and also doesnt power up when loaded with fresh batteries.
However, everything else appears to work. Being a novice, I'd like to know how to go about shooting manually? I understand camera basics and have shot with an slr for years, but I dont understand what exactly the manual knob is adjusting as it isn't labelled. Any help would be much appeciated.

Also, I'll be shooting on 64T film in mostly daylight conditions, and I've already acquired an 85b filter to fit the camera.

Thanks again,

Patrick

That knob is supposed to be adjusting the iris and therefore the needle in the fstop scale window, since the needle is actually just the pointy top of one of the iris blades. And it needs power even in manual mode - tragic.

If the fstop scale window plastic is cracked, it could be snagging the needle, in fact is likely to. That may mean your electronics are okay.

Take it apart, or send it away.

hi,

i had similar problem - camera worked but lightmeter not. in my case it was electronics, because i discovered that when i press cover lightmeter needle moves. so - if you want to try here is my solution :

Image
remove cover and bolt for battery check

Image
roll small tube from paper - not very thick and about 1 mm higher than hole for bolt.

Image
place paper tube and bolt in place. you can see now 1mm distance made from paper. thats all.

when you close cover, higher bolt will press circuit board. in my case in this moment lightmeter was fixed and worked properly BUT i lost battery check option (bolt have no room to move). as you can see on photos after some time paper tube have to be replaced for new. if you want you can use some better material. i hope it will work.
