"last rolls" music video. first cut.

Hello,
Nice work, I have just seen it.
I imagine the music band was happy with the result.
As you pointed firstly may be variation could be my comment, as an additionnal exterior location or more subjective/abstract shots (as the water fx) could have been great also to include, but anyway I feel the video-clip works with that interior atmosphere and the dance of the singer. This is a band from Sweden ?

Im wondering what software you used to edit? I think its a great job but I dont like the little flickering here and there but not sure if thats the look you wanted? I know on final cut you can crop and clean all that up! is this something you plan on doing? who does the cleaness processing and transfers quality control?

um, i would never leave anything in there that i didn't want. we wanted it to look quite messy, yet "slick", so aside from editing it a bit jumpy and use a lot of out of focus and flaring shots we just used all the little glitches that were naturally in there, like splices, dust, hair, frameline flares and the infamous blue streaks. i'm glad we succeeded. :-)

mattias.
awesome! i really liked the set you had going. i've been really interested recently in the idea making s8 music videos for some local bands here (just scrappy d.i.y. stuff) and was wondering what it takes to make something that professional looking? like how many people on your crew and how much of a budget and timeline? anyways, once again, thanks for putting that up. it really stepped up my perception of what is possible.

hey adam,
thanks for your comments. in this case we had a minimal crew. me, an assistant camera and the guys from the band helping out with the set decoration as well as catering. i did the set design, makeup, lighting and such myself, aside from producing, directing and dp'ing. and the budget was only around $600.
but, important point coming up, i couldn't have done it if we weren't so streamlined from having done so many videos before. i directed three this year, shot two more, and gripped, assisted and such on another ten, and the ac i had is one i know very well and work with all the time.
if you're just starting out you can still do a lot with a small crew and little money, the main difference is it will take you weeks to do what i do in half a day. but after a while things will speed up, and as your budgets increase you might be able to make a living from it. try to get 10% as a director's fee each time even if budgets are super low and stick to it.
good luck,
