You might be correct if the film companies would care more about the quality and would scan the film at 4k and full colour-depth. But it looks like most films will only be scanned at 2k and a reduced colour-depth (e.g. 4:2:2) simply because this is faster and requires less hard-disk-space and hence is cheaper.

Oh, no doubt that 4k is better than 2k but using 2k isn't going to make the film look like it was shot on video or as bad as a video camera, as you suggested, nor will it remove all the benefits of shooting on film in the first place. The average audience member can tell the difference between film and video but not the difference between a 2k or 4k scan, which is why 2k scans are used so often.

Believe me, I'm older than I appear. My youngest grandaughter calls me "Grandpa Roger".

Should I go back to the cartoon avatar? Maybe so. It's certainly better looking than me. But, then again, so is the ink pen that drew it. :lol:
