Am I overly suspicious or is this a scam?

no, hollywood *made* them famous by picking up their films. *huge* difference. it's not like their films were aready hits when hollywood took notice. as a matter of fact in many cases *nobody* had seen them.

I recall reading a few months ago of some well funded, legitimate 'contest' like this, run by a new production firm-- I don't recall the outfit.

This might be it. If it's a scam, what's the racket-- what are they trying to do?

I didn't say there were hits before Hollywood took notice.

Nobody didn't fund for their first films, that's the point.
