Nizo Microphone Extension

Post by wyattali@concentric.net »

Hi folks,

I have 2 Nizo sound cameras....a 6056 and a 4080. I love them except for the microphone attachments. They both have about a six inch cord which is impossible to get close to the subject speaking. As far as I can tell they utilize an 8 prong DIN connector. I tried one radio shack to see if they had a female to a male extension with no luck. Has anyone ever been able to extend these mikes? I bought an extra one and almost cut the cord but my fear is that it will be next to impossible to splice back together.

Thanks,
Wyatt

Unfortunately, you'll have to make your own extension cable for these mikes. The easiest way to do this is to cut the extra one you have, and then splice-in whatever length wires you need. Although the plug might have 8 pins, there won't be that many wires actually used. If you color code the wires and match the leads on each end EXACTLY it should be easy.

A question: unless you have sound film, why do you need to use the Nizo microphones at all?

Thanks Jim, use I am now splicing another 20 feet into an extra Nizo mike I have. There are only 3 wires, and with a little effort I spliced them correctly.

BTW....Yes I have dozens of frozen Kodak sound film I am shooting.
