Lenses for Quarz S8 camera

Post by shoot1st »

I've just purchased a Quarz clockwork S8 camera and note that it appears to offer an interchangeable lens facility (C mount, I think). Trouble is I can't get other lenses to focus correctly. I think it's got something to do with a supplementary lens element that stays in the mount after main lens is removed (reflex viewfinder shows image even if no lens is on the camera).
I'd love to be able to use alternative lenses on this camera. Maybe there's someone out there that has solved this problem.

If the zoom lense is a supplimentary lenses then the fixed lens is an essential part of the package. It might be possible to use supplimentary lenses made for Standard 8 Quarz Cameras.

Forget that, I have just checked mine and no way will a Supplimentary fit.
Actually, is there a lens there? I just looks like plain glas to me, and it needed cleaning!

Neither do lens off a Regular 8 Bell and Howell or Bolex fit.

It seems to be around 24/25mm or 1 inch thread.

Maybe it is just an ease of assembly and maintenance facility. At least the filter and aperture can be easily checked to see if they are working.

Have you tried filming with the lens off. The field of view suggest a 20mm lens which is rather big for super 8. Standard is usually around 12mm.

Interesting. :?

Hoi,

I have recently found this absolutely rugged camera and used it already. The zoom lens is in fact a conversion kit, inside the body a real fixed focus lense is present (ca. 13 mm). You can film without the zoom conversion!!!

I have found it nice to work with, stable holding and reasonable focus setting using the micro prism (there are better ones on the market!).

Regards,

And there's no way of removing the fixed focus primary without major surgery. Guess it's going to be near impossible to find any prime lenses with the same convergence factor as the Meteor 8M 1 Zoom (The rear element sits fairly close to the fixed lens).

Other than that, I was surprised at the rugged construction of this camera and look forward to putting it through its paces during a volcano trek later this year.
