Film Interpretation Contest (FIC)

I shot part of my project this weeked. I had to record a TV newscast that is going to play in my final film. This had to be done before any filming actually took place. I shot my actress against a green screen and comped in the newsroom background as well as the graphics that appear for the news story. I dropped it all to black and white since I'll be shooting it again on Tri-X anyway. It's going to be playing on a TV in the background of a shot so I guess I'll need an LCD TV to keep the image from flickering. Any advice on that? I'll post a few clips or pictures today.

The use of an LCD monitor might not be nessecary... Depending on the camera and the monitor, you should be able to alter the refresh rate on one or the other to eliminate the flicker. Generally, this is in the computer's graphic settngs, or the monitor's software menu. (And you can use a computer here, just fullscreen the playback of the video...)

The process does differ between monitors though, so you might have to ask around for specific proceedures...

I'm dissapointed that your leaving the project. I understand that there are some things that are unavoidable and therefore cause a conflict. However I think that the December 25th deadline is just what most of us needed to get off our duff's and go DO something.

Today marks the end of the first 30 days of the project. I'd like to hear from you how you are doing. I have my script, 2 of my 4 actors, 1 scene in the can, and am planning a shoot for this thursday to get some establishing shots.

There are 60 days left, but let's not drag our feet and panic at the last minute. I am excited about my project and can't wait to see it completed. I am also looking forward to seeing yours. Let's hear from our members!!!

i have my script now, and my actors, as well as camera and everything else. need stock footage though. i can't tell you what of without giving too much away, but do you know of any good stock footage sites, preferably free but at least cheap? quality and resolution not important as long as the subject matter is right.

I finally came up with a worthwhile idea. However, I might shoot this on 16mm, and it will take some time for me to get the film and for processing. The pre-production will also involve some effort... when was the deadline? December 25? I have to apply to law schools in the next few months as well, so mine might be a few weeks late.

I haven't had a parking ticket in quite some time... I guess you could call it a career move, maybe leading to self-financed films ;)

I'll second Flatwood's comments there, and wish u luck too. But one note of caution, I took that route once and can honestly say that I must be one of the few individuals in this country to have been paid by the Metropolitan Police in London to sit and watch pornography....to determine whether the content was serious enought to warrant a conviction under our obscenity laws....stranger than fiction...i'm sure it'll provide u with no end of inspiration for your film making if u ever get the time...

I'm in need of two female actors. I have seeked out my friends and such but I don't feel like any of them would be good for the role. I have started to think that maybe I should start soliciting waitresses and the like. But I don't want them to think I'm some sort of perv. Must walk on egg shells....

I keep thinking about different ways to find an actress or two. There is a college in my town that has a theater arts class, I'm thinking of paying them a visit. Any suggestions? The hardest thing so far has been finding talent. Of course not paying anything makes it harder. I'm open to ideas or suggestions that could help my situation...

Get some calling cards printed up that say movie producer or film director on them and make up a phoney hollywood address for the cards. Wear a beret with an overcoat thrown over your shoulders. Riding pants and high leather boots are also a plus. Do you have access to a Stutz Bearcat or maybe a Cord automobile??? All these things help with potential actresses for your films. Years ago I could get them with a guitar but Ive taken to this formula lately!!! :twisted:

Well, if you do not want to pay for a pro, of course there are amateur actors. Some can be be really good. If you can find a director who specialised in directing amateur groups for theater, or does this on a regular basis for whatever reason, they might be able to direct you to a few talented actors for your project. Mostly (at least here where I live) they have directed several groups in the region on project basis. So they might know how to find the best players. So try to get in touch with the theaterworld and ask around to find such a director. Some combine professional and amateur jobs, so you might find them in the pro world as well.
