Im a fresh owner of the carena zoomex s. its the most beautiful reg8 cam i ever had in my hands, its not heavy, very elegant design, it sits perfect in the hand, the 6.5-52 angenieux zoom lens runs like new, lightmeter runs as well. Foma Film is in the fridge (;-). there was no manual with the cam, and there is one cotroller im not sure what it does. see right picture. it has sun and thungsten light symbols, perhaps it switches conversion filters. is there someone with this cam who knows, or has a manual?
Just took a look at mine and it doesn't seem to do anything. I think it is just a "reminder" dial so you can tell if you loaded B&W, daylight or tungsten film, and which side of the roll you are on- if you remembered to set it when you loaded it ;-)
Having been inspired by the enthusiasm for the Ekta 100 D stock, I just got my old Carena Zoomex R8 camera out and find the battery compartment is empty!
Can anyone tell me what type of battery is needed, which I assume is for the built-in meter?
I'm going to get some of the Ektachrome 100D from Photoworld here in Wales. They are doing a deal on 5 x 25ft spools for £125.00 process paid!
although i did not see any results yet, it looks like the meter is o.k. but since i have no manual for the cam and didnt find any information on shutter-speeds i cant tell for sure, but assuming that at 24fps the shutter speed is arount 1/50 the internal metering is identical to the external light meter im using, so i think it should be o.k.
well, this post is over a year old, but it interests me. i have two carenas of my own. they are both zoomex, each a tiny bit different, mainly distinquished by the lens.
Neither of mine looks like yours. They are generally the same, but what you are pointing to is where yours differs. Mine does not have the meters you are pointing to. On mine one of those circles is the battery compartment and the other is presumably the optical element of the light meter.
The apperture dial of yours also looks slightly different than mine. What I'm wondering is if your carena zoomex is the one i've always dreamed of. I love the camera and I have used it a couple times. But putting batteries in it has always bugged me. I would much rather use an external lightmeter, and keep the camera completely mechanical. However, i think my carena requires a battery just to adjust the aperture. What an annoying quirk.
I have only ever used one battery in my camera. I wonder if you have 2 compartments or if these px625 stack on top of eachother? the battery i used is not flat like a watch battery, it is stalky, like 3+ watch batteries. It is some kind of a replacement for the original mercury battery. The replacement was much more expensive and had a much shorter lifespan.
the carena zoomex i've always dreamed of has a real manual aperture with f-stops, and no need for a battery.
