BFCC, Elmo 110s' and 'Lord of the Rings' on Super 8
BFCC was great, were any of you guys there? As usual I ended up coming home with nothing that I had set out to get but some good bargains all the same. Best bargain was an Elmo 110 in its original case with hand book and accessories all for the sum of £5.00! It seems to be in working order, I ran a film through it today at a local open air museum so it will be interesting to see what comes back....
Also picked up a couple of shorts on Super 8 the best of which is the Lord of The Rings Trailer, fantastic, in scope with excellant sound and print quality, highly reccomended to any one out there who has an anomorphic set-up. Also got Trailers to Planet of the Apes, Ice Age and Harry Potter so am going to put them together on a reel with the 400ft Pod Race sequence from Star Wars which will make a pretty impressive Scope reel.
I'm feeling inspired now to make up a bracket so that I can use the scope lens on the Elmo and make my own cinemascope short! Hmmm.... we'll see...
Anybody else get along there and get any good deals?
Mike.

We declined to enter the European monetary union several years ago when most of Europe joined up, on the basis that the Conservative government didn't think it was in the country's best economic interests.
Our new(er) leaders, Mr Blair and our Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Brown, have said that they are for unification in principle, but that 5 economic tests must be met before they give it the go ahead. They have also promised a referendum, which they are very scared (with good reason) they will lose. That is the basic situation, all climaxing next month, after a wait of several years.
Personally, I cannot see Britain adopting the Euro for a few years, if ever. I also personally think that the pound will now slide down against the Euro continually for several years. Our "special" relationship with America is poor economic justification for not unifying with Europe, in my opinion, as is "the richest square mile in the world" City of London reasoning. We are now alone, and the main countries we trade with are our economic enemies!
Not wanting to start a political thread - merely trying to explain the situation regarding currency here in Britain. My opinion in the last paragraph is just that - one of many perspectives.

BFCC is a twice yearly event and attracts a number of regular dealers, it is predominantly a film collectors event with 8 and 16 mm cine shows going on all day but inevitably there is a considerable amount of camera, editing and projection equipment on sale. This event I counted about 16 cine dealers in two halls plus 'Bring and Buy' which is where some of the best bargains are to be had. The next event will be in the Autumn.
John Clancey, one of the organisers has mentioned the possibility of widening the appeal to film makers by possibly encouraging more equipment dealers to attend and running a show for home grown movies alongside the package stuff, might be worth pursuing. What do others think?
If you want to keep abreast of all the shows, conventions film competitions and dealers in the UK it might be worth subscrining to ACE [Amateur Cine Enthusiast] Magazine, email; ace@globalnet.co.uk for details.
It's good to support these events and publications, they help to keep our hobby alive!

The BFCC has been around since the 70's. Keith Wilton has been one of the organizers since the beginning. Anyone wants to know about it and hasn't had a look yet can do so at http://www.bfcc.biz .
We plan to put updated pages together for Saturday's event shortly. Also we have to detail the date etc. for the next event in October which is already booked and planned. The grass doesn't have time to grow here y'know. Anyone who missed Saturday missed the THX sound system and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound to Jurassic Park on Super 8. Will we do something like it again? That's up to the collectors - are you interested in big shows like this?

http://www.bfcc.biz is currently receiving updates with loads of piccies under the 'Past Events' section. I've slapped them all up (more will follow) in a bit of a hurry as I'm not going to be around for a while and wanted everyone to have the chance of having a look while the event is still recent.
I'll probably update the site further and add captions and more detail in the near future.
