I plan on purchasing a shotgun mic and a high quality tape deck off of Ebay. I've been eyeing a few and think I can do it for about $100. But I'll probably end up doing some ADR in post as well.

ahhh, I'm falling behind. I've ordered my film but still haven't locked down my script yet! 8O Hopefully by the end of the week I'll know what I'm going to shoot and can start casting actors.

I'm also planning on buying a shotgun mike and a minidisc player off of ebay. gonna shoot wild and hope for the best as well.

i have a shotgun mic that i pulled from a eumig sound camera. works great with very strong directionality and clear sound, but i wouldn't use it if sound quality was important. there are plenty of pretty good mics in the $500 range that you might be able to find used for much less. sennheiser is probably the brand to look for.

I even thought about using my camcorders build in mic. It's not the best but it can do a great job in a controlled enviroment. If I used it while filming I could have video of the whole shoot as well. HA! That would be cool for a "Making of" feature!

actually i've seen people mounting dv camcorders on booms and gotten great results. the mics in those are usually great, they just don't perform great since they're positioned so poorly in the scene. and just imagine the cool bird's eye perspective shots you'll get for free. :-)

Time for another update. It's been 3 weeks now. Hopfully everyone knows what they are going to be shooting. I have my story all planned out and two of my actors have agreed to be in my film. I am going to be shooting my first scene's this Saturday. I am going to shoot it on DV because this scene will be playing on a TV in my movie. I'm guessing that I will have to use a LCD TV if I don't want to get flicker when I film it, right?

After that, I'm going to find some locations for the rest of the film. I have a few picked out, I also need a car that I can break the windshield on. I have two solutions for that, me and a friend both have cars with broken windshields, smashing them further wouldn't hurt anything since they both need to be replaced anyway...

Hows it coming for you?

Going great! I have a cast and crew and a series of surrealist vignettes. My shoot should be easy -- all I need is a piano mover that will work for free for two days and a rainstorm I can control with my mind. Should be easy! :)

Nothing yet... this is going to be interesting when the idea finally emerges fully formed, then executed in a fantastic frenzy of filmmaking...

I'm still thinking and making notes and even doing some research. I do have a general structure though, but vaguely. Time is scarse. It won't be too complicated to record. It's going to be outside on one place so..that shouldn't be too complex.

Story is finished and I'm just working on casting at the moment. Thank god for willing friends. Mostly waiting on film to arrive from Kodak

I'll be shooting Plus-X, and am thinking of cross processing it as a negative. Haven't decided yet.

i've decided to shoot it on my 1983 hitachi video camera. i've also found a great location and perfect actors. no story yet though. it would have been much more clever of me to write a pitch for a story i already had instead of just making one up, for sure. :-)

Seven cartridges of Plus-X arrived Saturday. I'll shoot one as a test just to make sure one of my cameras works (no reason they shouldn't).

Primary photography will be 4 Nov, a date dictated by my cast's schedules. Here's hoping for good weather. Hopefully I can get it all in one day because unpredictable fall weather will probably make it impossible to match the lighting on a re-shoot, although I could probably get away with it.

I'll shoot at 20fps and try for a shooting ratio of 4:1.

Well, I recieved my film yesterday, but due to a missunderstanding between me and the Kodak representative, I was supprised to learn I ordered 3 carts of E64 and 1 cart of Plus-X, not the other way around. Guess the story will have to be in colour, no time to re-order.

Shooting on the weekend of Nov 11, still looking for a costume for two of the characters, but other than that most everything is worked out.
