Using Nikon lenses on an H-8 Rex

Post by Lunar07 »

I can not resist the temptation. I want to install a Nikon lens mount - C mount adapter on my Bolex H-8 rex. So that I can try nikon 35mm still photography lenses. Would this work? For example, what would it mean to use a Nikon 50mm 'normal' prime lens? Would this translate into a normal 12.5mm lens for R8? Or would it translate into a tele lens?

It will be a tele lens. If it would be that easy, I would already have a bunch of nikon primes on my 4008.

Would you elaborate on this? :) Why isn't it that easy?

Just topping this thread because I would also like to know the issues. Matt, When you say its not that easy, are you just referring to the fact that it will be hard to get the kind of focal lengths required for typical filming? For example, after reading the focal length comparison thread you started, I am right to say you will need a very wide angle 35mm SLR lens (e.g. an expensive Nikon SLR Fisheye), just to get a 'normal' effect in S8?

Also, can anyone answer this: What are the issues involved with just sticking any c-mount lens onto a c-mount camera? What exactly is lens colimation? Can't you just slap any c-mount on a Beaulieu 4008 and expect it to work? Or stick a C-mount to Nikon-F converter and have SLR lenses work on a Bolex H-16?

Thanks for any input on this one.

Assuming your H8 is a reflex model, The lens will have to be a least 75 to 100 mm because the optics for the H8 rex lenses are specifically designed for that camera.

Sorry, I didn't noticed first there was a question.
For example, after reading the focal length comparison thread you started, I am right to say you will need a very wide angle 35mm SLR lens (e.g. an expensive Nikon SLR Fisheye), just to get a 'normal' effect in S8?
A 8mm lens to be exact. Lens have a predetermined focal lenght, whatever the body ( understand format) they're screwed in. And as you may have understood through the focal comparison thread, the "normal" focal on 16mm will be a little tele on Super8 and a little wide angle on 35mm.
What are the issues involved with just sticking any c-mount lens onto a c-mount camera? What exactly is lens colimation? Can't you just slap any c-mount on a Beaulieu 4008 and expect it to work? Or stick a C-mount to Nikon-F converter and have SLR lenses work on a Bolex H-16?
Sorry but this subject has been hardly and well discussed a few time ago : I really encourage you to do a search on "lens collimation" and "back focus" on this forum.
