I'm rolling camera with b/w film at the moment.
If I want to use colour film for a moment ..
Is it safe to take b/w film out of the camera and load colour film..
and then use that b/w again..?
This is my first 8mm shooting.. and I think catrige prevent film from light.
Is it right?
Thanks..
Is it safe to load used film again?

this is correct. However the film in the film gate will be exposed to light (unless you change the cartridge in a darkroom). Hence approx. 20-30 frames will be "overexposed". In most cases this really doesn't matter. But if you've shot single-frame, a title, ... or other scenes where you've counted frames orseconds, you'll probably miss these frames later on. Hence -in these cases- it's better to film your lens cap for 1s before and after changing the cart.

The funky part is that even if you do change the cartridge in the dark, the drive mechanism can swing up to a full revolution before it engages the cartridge and starts the film moving again. This means that the frame in the gate will be multiply exposed.
-all the more reason to roll a little "waste film" if what you are doing is frame for frame critical!

what would prevent the pulldown claw from advancing the film even if the drive mechanism isnt up to speed yet?BolexPlusX wrote:The funky part is that even if you do change the cartridge in the dark, the drive mechanism can swing up to a full revolution before it engages the cartridge and starts the film moving again.
