For some reason looking at these posts clicked for me what's wrong with Lynch and tape - he was one of the directors who contributed a scene to a film, forget the title, wherein each director shot one roll in the original film camera, Lumiere something...
Asked why he made films, he said it was a great medium in which to explore the life of the mind, "Lost Highway" and "Mulholland Drive" being two brilliant examples. Both films are airtight, BTW, not willy-nilly like some folks think. Anyway, my mind doesn't live in tape land, and that's the problem as I see it.
How about you guys - do your inner visual thoughts look like video tape?
