wasting k40 is a shame

Post by romeojesus »

I had to shoot my last 4 k40 carts this weekend so that they
get to lausanne switzerland in time before the close their
development facility there.

weather turned out to be really foggy with ugly hazy sky this weekend.
also the tripod I wanted to use was not whre it was supposed to be
because somebody took it to berlin without tellin anybody..

so I grabbed a 1,25kw hedler to shoot the remaining carts in
ma flat.
I have a liitle homerecording studio that I wanted to
shoot anyway...so I did..

after two carts I was finished with that, so had another 2 carts....
so I shot some test cards to compare my two lenses for
my leicina special and some other silly things just to kill the last
meters...

wasting those two carts really sucked and felt bad, because shooting
super8 tought me to plan every shoot very
accuratly so you don´t waste too much film
with non usable stuff like that...but i had to, so the carts
arrive in switzerland in time (hope they do!!!)

anyway...sad experience

I finished off a roll of reg 8 at my parents house on Sunday, just eating outdoors and filming their cats...been putting it off as my dad's recovering from major surgery and I know he didn't want to be photographed when he looked ill.

The stupid thing is I still have two reg 8 rolls (one K25 and one K40) and am fresh out of ideas :( Maybe I'll end up sending them to Dwaynes.

I don't understand the panic as you can still send K40 to Dwaynes.

K40 is still available in Super 8 from Witner & Standard 8 from just about everywhere. :?

Well, it is about the prepaid Kodak processing. Which ends on 25th.

Dwayne's is an option for EU too but needs separate payment. Although fair enough at $8 for a S8 and $5 for the first film's shipping. Extra films cost $0.25 in shipping. So it gets cheap quickly.

Indeed no need to trash the film if you have any. If you buy film you have to value the included processing at € 0

Wittner reports to start a processing and shipping service for Kodak supplied films. Against fee of course.
Kind regards,

André

My Kodachrome remaining stock is outdated, I really don't fancy paying for processing via Dwaynes when I can have it processed for free if I am able to post it to Swizerland today.

K40 super 8 is no longer listed at Wittner, they've run out.

Angus, you can still shoot your regular8 rolls and send them for free processing to Switzerland until 31/12/2006. Regular8, DS8, and 16mm Kodachromes are processed in the same mashine.
I know because I asked them. So, no need to "waste" them...

Dwaynes is happily processing K14 so don't waste it...shoot it in interesting ways like that other thread. Personally, I would go for some twighlight scenes that included the brightest part of the sky.

I used to think the same, but see what they answered me:

About the processing time, I'm not sure but I think it'll be like Super-8 films, until end of september 2006 (before 25th september in our lab.)

seems they are a little bit confused.

Can you quote the answer they gave you?
I still have a couple of pre-paid reg-8, I'd like to avoid Dwaine, as well

I have nothing against Dwaynes but I'd rather avoid paying for processing and postage.

As things stand I can spend 82p on postage and that's it....if I send to Dwaynes I will have to pay for processing and postage which will surely end up being 10x what I pay now.....for films that expired in 1989.....really not worth my bother...

What about the double super8 films? developed on the same machine as 16mm
Will these be processed until end of 2006 or August the 1st? no, end of year 2006
What about the 8mm films? same as double super 8 and 16mm
What about the slide K64, K200, K25 35mm rolls? Is there a plan to end them too?No plans so far to stop them, they are still manufacured and sold.

As someone who recently shot my last cartridge of S-8mm Kodachrome and sent it in for Kodak processing in a PK-59 mailer, it is a sad day. I have been doing this for over thirty years and now it is about to be no more. BUT, I have not felt this good about the future of small gauge filming in a very long time.

Angus, you will probably someday cherish the footage you shot of your family doing normal things. Nothing to get excited about while filming, but the images of routine life in the past are priceless and the archival qualities of Kodachrome
are the perfect medium to capture that. Your dad's illness is a major event in his life and your whole family. I hope he recovers fully.

Sometimes we wait for that "perfect" event to film and our cameras sit on the shelf...
