Idiots at Kodak

Post by BalsaBill »

I sent a roll of DS8 K25 for processing. In the can I enclosed the following instructions:
This 100 ft roll of Double Super 8 Kodachrome 25 was purchased from Wittner Kinotechnik in Germany and the processing is prepaid.

Please process, slit and return to:

I had included instructions to slit the film since I've received it back unslit before.

I received the film back, unprocessed with a message:
Unidentified Film. We were unable to complete your order as the film was not appropriately identified. If you can identify the film and provide the following information, we will be happy to complete the order.

Film size & type___________ Process (circle one) C-14 E-6 K-14 B & W

I had sent the film to the New Jersey address but it came with a Dallas return address.

Can't these people read?

Idiots at Kodak? You put the instructions INSIDE the can?

Is the processing supplied by Kodak? Or do you have to send it back to Wittner to get the free processing?

When you purchase super 8 film from Wittner you get a mailer to send it back to Wittner.....as their processing deal is with Dwaynes.

Not sure but I'd suspect DS8 is the same unless there is an officially available Kodak product "process-paid DS8 K25"

Well, the Wittner site states "Preis incl. Entwicklung durch Kodak," so one is forced to assume that you really *did* put the instructions inside the film can.

Personally, I'm glad that the "idiots" at Kodak aren't stupid enough to open a can of unprocessed film to go hunting for instructions that may or may not be in there.

I must say, I have always found the people at Kodak Swizerland to be extremely helpful.

If you really did put the note in the can then you only have yourself to blame. No lab employee or manager is going to open a can to look for processing instructions.

When sending to Kodak (or any lab) without a film-specific mailer I always write a brief covering letter and wrap the can/cart in the letter...and put both in a padded envelope...

Yes, normally one puts the instructions on the outside, otherwise kodak/the lab just got a random unmarked and unspecified can. I usually wrap instructions with an elastic band and also write "Process Normal" directly on the 16mm film I'm having developed.

I usually place very complete and involved instructions on the last frame of the exposed reel, then send it to the Kodak rep in Katmandu. I can't believe how often they've screwed up my order! I keep getting yak hair in the gate...

Oh, don't be so harsh, everybody. We're all friends here. :)

It soulds like it was a simple misunderstanding that can easily be fixed.

Heck, I once sent an unexposed roll of 16mm in for processing! Man, was that clever of me.

What I like to do is tape a calling card (that has my name, address, email, and phone number) and processing instructions on the cart or can.

Keep us posted on the processing, Bill. I'm in Florida too and I'd like to see how long the turn around time is. I'd love to try the 100d.
