Old 35mm Projector

Post by sevensword25 »

Just got this old 35mm projector. I'm just wondering if I would be able to show newer films on here: ie. trailers, shorts, etc...

I've got one like that, a Keystone toy projector. It has no shutter, just pulls the film thru the geneva mechanism. Coke bottle glass lens. Mine would scratch any film that passed through it. But it "could" work if I insisted.

It also has no sound capability. In short, it makes for a nice display piece or as a prop, but I would never entrust any film I valued to running it through that projector. I once owned a DeVry suitcase 35mm silent projector. It was very much advanced over the Keystone, but I still could not bring myself to run any film through it because of its design and build which was murder on the fragile acetate film.

Also I guess many/most 35mm footage you might get hold of would be anamorphic widescreen so would project sqished?

Still, would certainly be fun to have a 35mm projector, even if it's low quality toy one...! Maybe replace the lens in some waY?

Certainly you can pick up 35mm trailers on ebay etc dirt cheap so no harm giving it a go with some thing you don't mind possibkly scratching...
