Don't know anybody in France or Italy or Germany, but the Widescreen Centre in London offer telecine.
Then there is TodAO's telecine from super 8 colour negative, in London too.
I'm planning on testing out my workprinter clone to do colour negative, but I'll need a few weeks, maybe ready in July or August... unless you want your precious films to part of the experiments. Since I'm a newbie and not a professional filmchainer yet, I think I would first make prints and telecine one of those.
http://homepage.mac.com/onsuper8/process.html has a good range to choose from.

Me, I have 2 carts of Vision 2 - 500T and 1 cart tri-X
Andec would like 133 euros for the processing and Vision 2 print. It's expensive for me. I seek a solution. Perhaps remplace the print by telecine (for example AVI DV on DVD).

Andec aimerait 133 euros pour le développement et le tirage de la Vision 2. C'est cher pour moi. Je recherche une solution. Peut remplacer le tirage par un téléciné (par exemple un AVI DV sur DVD).

Opps! Just use Google language tools to translate into English. Don't forget to select your to and from languages...

In a few weeks I will begin my efforts to telecine colour negative Super 8. I'm busy doing a week or two of other work, then I'll begin experiments to see my colour negative telecine results. If you can wait a few weeks maybe my system will work for you... Maybe I can begin to compete on the low end with the commercial labs.
I'm also working on making prints from colour negative stock. For that I'm planning on swapping the DV camcorder with a switched on, hooked up Elmo 1012 S-XL.

Try screenshot ag in berlin, germany. They use a Flashscan8 and do transfers to DV or harddisk (uncompressed 4:2:2 blackmagic avi or mov).super8france wrote:Me, I have 2 carts of Vision 2 - 500T and 1 cart tri-X

I've done a supervised V2 200t transfer there and they have competitive prices (ca. 6-9€/min incl. prep/cleaning).
this is from my transfer job done there.

Duran post-production house in Issy Les Moulineaux (Paris) had a Ursa telecine with super-8 gate when I did a short work-practice there back in 2000. At that time it was the best place to transfer super-8 in France.
I was lucky enough to see a transfer of some footage of "super8 stories" in that transfer suite. (that transfer was supervised by Kusturica´s DP and the originals were Plus-X (7276) and Tri-X (7278) transfered to Digi-Beta PAL).
Bye,
Daniel

last time i talked to them they did dump to HD at no extra charge (outputting to miniDV is actully more trouble for them since they capture to their internal HD first anyway)mattias wrote:how much extra is it to transfer to hard drive? it only says minidv and dvd in the price list. can you get the "test sample" deal with a transfer to disk? i should probably be asking them this but hey, what are friends for. ;-)
note however that you can get the uncompressed avi file on a data dvd, which should reduce shipping cost...
they do a fairly decent transfer at a fairly decent price, not high-end not low-end, but something in between that usually looks ok (although i've seen some less than perfect flashscan transfers of high contrast k40 footage)
can't comment on their negative transfers, but my general experience that color is terribly hard to get right (if you're hypercritical like me) and that dust and scratches show a lot.

usually it cost 5-9 € fix for hd copy. I was quite satisfied with my negative telecine but that was a supervised session, too (about 20% extra charge). It's not a flying spot transfer, but their 10bit uncompressed helps with colour correction. The capture camera inside the Flashscan makes the reds pop out like hell, something that has to be taken care of during scanning/timing. Dust and scratches show, but the operator does "live" wet cleaning as the film runs through the machine. I had only dirt at the end and beginning of each roll, which is normal (imho). Everybody able to intepret a waveform/vectorscope should be ok bringing the colours where he/she wants and do it with the help of the operator.christoph wrote:last time i talked to them they did dump to HD at no extra charge (outputting to miniDV is actully more trouble for them since they capture to their internal HD first anyway)mattias wrote:how much extra is it to transfer to hard drive? it only says minidv and dvd in the price list. can you get the "test sample" deal with a transfer to disk? i should probably be asking them this but hey, what are friends for. ;-)

@matias
The "test sample" should work for hd transfer too, but better ask. christoph is right, they capture to their internal raid first.

at least one excuse to buy a raid.mattias wrote:btw i thought the flashscan was an 8 bit scanner, so why the 10-bit files? you can still play 8-bit files in a 10-bit timeline, at least with blackmagic, and enjoy 10 bit rendering of effects. seems like all you "gain" from 10 bit files is 25% in file size.
/matt
well, it has sdi outputs. don't know if the camera inside is native 10bit. one operator at screenshot ag wrote his thesis project about building the flashscan. maybe call them up and ask...
