I like the Filmo OK but honestly I prefer a non-reflex Bolex - lighter, presumably as tough, and nicer looking ;) I also have the handgrip, and the turret mount inspires more confidence than the stamped metal on the Filmo.
Filmos are nice also. I converted mine to take single perf. Everything is easy to do on that camera - very simple design. I was going to make it S16 but the way the gate is mounted makes that a bit tough, and the housing near the lens mount is also very thick/close and would have to be ground back.

Yall are great. Thanks for sharing so much information. It sounds like if the spring motor works, and it probably does, Im in business. I did notice from the ebay picture its missing the cool looking leather strap Ive seen on some others. Looks like a great camera to take on a river trip Ive got coming up.

Beautiful and easily worth ten times the $$27 I paid for mine. If you can get a beauty like yours for just $270 I better not put more than $125 in that beater I just bought.Afwasborstel wrote:Yes...I know...just showing of...mine cost 10 times then the one he bought.....
Great picture, thanks.....

I suspect a bolex wouldn't be as tough, but they are the standard camera and are much more expandable and upgradeable. They are definitely a lot, lot lighter too.Evan Kubota wrote:I like the Filmo OK but honestly I prefer a non-reflex Bolex - lighter, presumably as tough, and nicer looking ;) I also have the handgrip, and the turret mount inspires more confidence than the stamped metal on the Filmo.

Oh and they are still being made...
but you know, you may prefer a non reflex bolex but they are many, many more times expensive.
Me I prefer an eclair, but I don't have one! ;)

that's what you have to watch out for, what lenses and stuff the camera comes with, because you can spend a fortune getting the bits!flatwood wrote:Beautiful and easily worth ten times the $$27 I paid for mine. You never know those old lenses it comes with might be really nice ones, and you might be lucky!

Isnt that the truth. One cheap lense and a viewfinder and Ive cracked my budget already. Ill have to make my strap out of an old leather belt. :lol:Freya wrote:....that's what you have to watch out for, what lenses and stuff the camera comes with, because you can spend a fortune getting the bits!

Buth that one is even more expensive...750 dollar...
I don't think the 750 dollar one looks that great. Strange lenses for starters.flatwood wrote:It looks new and probably worth the $$. That makes yours a bargain. Mine's still a beater.Afwasborstel wrote:.....that one is even more expensive...750 dollar...
However what I want to know is how they got those lenses on there! On mine you can't attach large lenses like that because the bolt at the centre of the turret gets in the way!
Your so called beater looks in preety good condition to me, wait till it arrives.
Also the film Bottle Rocket was shot with only one lens. It looks slightly odd because of it, but you can do it! I think your filmo will be fine.

Bought mine as a collectors item..Not planning to use it.. If I would have bought to use it...I would also buy a old one... No fear for scratching of letting it fall out of your hands..
U can sometimes find old run down DR's on ebay that don't work anymore..maybe u can get lucky and buy it for the parts. Like said before in a reply u can get the focus lens for around 25 dollars...If u are planning to really use the camera...why not spend 50 dollar on it? (Not to mention the cost of film)

The lenses on mine are shallow at the base...so the bolt doesn't come in its way....then they become larger after 5 mm or so...However what I want to know is how they got those lenses on there!
