Where you been? People were getting worried. :)

Something similar is happening at my shop this week. One of our employees didn't show up for work yesterday, or today. No word from him, calls to his home go unanswered. Did he quit? Have an accident? Run off with Paris Hilton? Get abducted by aliens? No one knows... :?:

Tlatosmd is back with a vengeance. I think he's posting on every single thread from the last couple of weeks. The only drag is having to go back and re-read those long debates between Roger and Mitch to get the context of what tlatosmd has to say on the subject. 8O

Hi guys, I'm very sorry for having been away during this long time and not finishing my contribution for Pass the Cart.

My problems started out when my internship contract didn't get prolonged a second time in March so my first priority turned out to be finding a new job. Beside that, I didn't check filmshooting.com anymore for two reasons, which were a.) my broken browser at home, and b.) I felt ashamed for not doing my K40 duty.

I however did manage to shoot my 30 seconds on May 7th. I did so in quite a hurry, and I'm afraid my contribution will turn out as the typical home movie needing intense density/brightness and color temperature control during telecine. Our cart will go out by mail as soon as I'll get Rollef's address.

Again, I'm sorry for letting my troubles interfere with my duties as a filmshooting.com member.

But on the other hand, sheesh. As soon as I started checking yesterday what I missed, I was flooded with PMs.

Kids eating hot-dogs and ice cream till they burst, pretty girls in national costumes, school kids marching in the parade with lots of marching bands, the royal family greeting them from the balcony at the palace, this years graduates dressed in their traditional red or blue ?uniforms? , driving around in their painted cars, drinking ?cus schools out. Its flowers and greenery all over as it?s springtime in the air! Ahh- who could ask for more!
Outch! Very sorry on that one man... Please PM me your address so I can mail my cart to you.

I hardly think my 10 feet will be "epic" also but I guess with something from so many places this wil be cool non the less.

Okay Rollef, I couldn't mail your cart yesterday because it was a public holiday (and I didn't have any stamps), but now it's on its way! :)

Now we only need to find out what happened in Cologne. DU-DU-DU-DUNNNN!

Hey dude, as an Italian you should know how long it took for two certain countries to form a national state out of an inefficient patchwork carpet even though at least one of these countries had efficient manual workers and craftsmen. ;)

Oh, and BTW...

All the official screen printed PTC Tee shirts have been distributed. I saved out two XL for the future. I was thinking about sending one out to the pres of Kodak or someone associated with the super 8 dept. with our compliments. What thinkist the assembly???

Did some research on my own but couldn't determine exactly who to target, so I sent John P. this private message. All of the execs I listed seemed to have something to do with film imaging (as well as Perez, who is the top dog--"responsible for moving Kodak into the digital future"). Hopefully he'll get back with the culprit.
"Hi John,

To the best of your knowledge, which ONE Kodak executive was most responsible for the pulling of Kodachrome 40 in Super 8? We want to send this person a "Pass the Cart" t-shirt from our K40 project.

If you can't, or don't want to, narrow it down to a single person, which one of these people "deserves" the t-shirt the most?:

Antonio Perez
Mary Jane Hellyar
Eric G. Rodli
William G. Tompkins Jr.

Admittedly, we're trying to make a pointed but good-natured comment about how we feel in regards to the K40 situation. So who would the appropriate person be? If you have another suggestion, please feel free to pass the name on.

Thanks,

Tim"

John "replied:"
Much as some Super-8 film users want to blame "an executive" or other particular person at Kodak for discontinuing Super-8 KODACHROME film, you really need to blame "the market". Over the last three decades, Super-8 KODACHROME film use has declined precipitously, primarily due to the onslaught of home video. Kodak Entertainment Imaging has kept Super-8 a viable film origination medium based on the business case of professional filmmakers seeking a unique "look", and film schools who use it as an introduction to traditional filmmaking. For these two applications, the VISION2 Color Negative films, B&W reversal, and the E-6 compatible EKTACHROME films are much more suited, primarily because of the more widely available processing, or even home processing capability.

The executives you cite have to make good business decisions. In this case, I regretfully have to agree with them that other films are better suited to today's Super-8 filmmaking needs.
And I replied back:
John, I know how it works. You don't have to lecture me on basic business practices. But I also know that corporations are not just abstractions--they are run by people and people make decisions that affect policy.

I am really offended at your reply. I asked you a simple question requesting some guidance in making a small, good-natured gesture on behalf of our community and you reply with an insulting lesson that sounds like it was taken from some quartely report.

Try being something more than a corporate shill--you may find it refreshing. Thanks for nothing.

Tim
This guy really disappoints me sometimes. I'm starting to agree with some others that he doesn't really ever say anything except some bogus talking points which he parrots like an automaton. Needless to say, we won't get any help from him about where to send the t-shirt. What a hack.
