Beaulieu MR8 fun!

I finally received my Beaulieu MR8 from a fellow in France. It has a beautiful zoom Angenieux 5.5-25mm retro focus lens with the original metal lens cap. Of course, the auto-exposure batteries were in the camera but quite dead - I'm looking for replacements (not that auto anything is needed). The sculptured pistol grip is great.

The spring mechanism does not seem to be as robust as my Bolex H8, but then again this is a tiny camera. It seems to be warming up with use.
I'm especially impressed with the reflex viewing. Easy to see, and easy to focus.

I'll be shooting some FomaPan in it this week as a first test. Will post some pics soon.

just wondered how you getting on with camera as i was thinking of buying one myself?

I really like the camera, but it does attract a crowd, as it is both eye-catching in design, and from a distance tends to look like some sort of gun with a fat barrel (not good here in DC!!).

It does require more winding than my Bolex, but I'm getting used to it. The lens is great, and I'm really excited to see what the results look like on film.

look forward to seeing the footage you shoot with it. there seems to be a big lack of Standard 8 footage on the net.

perhaps there are not many Std8 shooters who bother with video transfer.

26 seconds with my newly serviced MR8 at 18fps.
