Single 8 and Velvia 50

Regarding the single 8 version of this film, the Velvia 50D. What single 8 cartridges to they use for this 50 asa film, the 25 or 200 asa notched ones? Will my ZC1000 know this is a 50 asa speed film? What did you guys do who tried it, just under expose or use the variable shutter ?

and... What's the difference between wittnerchrome 50D and Cinevia.

Hi,

the Cinevia-film comes in a modified 25ASA-cartridge. The modification makes most Fuji-cameras recognize the correct speed, including the ZC1000. The cameras that still only recognize 25ASA are listed on retro's page + on Muddy's page. Muddy did made some "not so good"-experiences with the Single8-Cinevia.

Looking at the traslated pages, two things came to mind.
1, was the "focus gap" thing as the new fim is thicker, but was that for projection or filming? Also with the thicker film we only get 2min and 40 secs. I asume that is at 18 fps and not 24.?

2, with the markings on the cartridge for 25, 50 and 200 asa, what will happen in a couple of years when there is no more velvia 50 and we need to put some velvia 100 in them? just under expose I guess.

IMHO it's only for projecting and only happens when the projector presses the film towards the lamp. (AFAIK only Heurtier- and Beaulieu-projectors presses the film toward the lens and hence won't have such a focus-problem, even though the change will most likely still be noticeable like a "bad splicing".)

As long as your camera takes the ASA-rating from the "arc" (marked with the red circle), you won't have any problems since the 50-ASA-arc is longer than the 25-ASA-arc. And the 100-ASA-arc is even longer than the 50-ASA-arc. And yes: 100ASA is a defined arc-length! Hence Retro/GK simply has to make that arc a little bit longer when switching from 50ASA to 100ASA. The only problem is with cameras that use the ASA-rating from the yellow marked spot or from the other ASA-rating-place (not visible on that picture):

Nevertheless: once Single8film.com produces those reloadable Single8-cartridges where ALL ASA-marks are set correctly, Retro/GK could use those carts instead of using modified 25ASA-carts.
