I got up a bit earlier than usual this morning. The sun was shining. Perfect. I took my new(ly aquired) $35 Canon 514 down from the shelf. The lens had some cleaning stains so I took some lens cleaning liquid and paper and sorted that out. The film had arrived a week or so ago. It came in a brown cardboard box with a yellow plastic strap around it. The packing list had all sorts of strange terminology on it such as 'K40' and 'Tri-X'........ It had taken a while to come, what with having to buy a bank draft and waiting for it to arrive in Europe.
I live in the most densely populated place in the world and I work on the East side of the island, next to the sea. Its suprisingly calm there. During lunch I walked out to the promenade. The downloaded manual from the internet said to correct for eyesight by focusing on infinity and playing with the eyepiece. I did that. Then I turned the camera on, focused and pressed the trigger. I shot. I did a 180deg swoop. Then I shot the water. I shot a fisherman on a boat. There was a dog on board. I shot this mountain that looks like a lion. I shot a flower closeup with the macro.
I just shot my first 10 ft of film today!!! It was pretty fun. Can't wait to develop the film. Just wanted to share this with everyone.
Good to hear that!
I planned to shoot some super 8 and 16mm(testing the K-3) last sunday but the rain stopped me. Will shoot this Sunday , probably at Wanchai.
It kept raining heavily on Sunday in this most densely populated place in the world !
I look forward to hearing about the results after the film has been processed. Oh, I dont think many people mention this when giving out tips to aid in super 8 film making - always use the focussing aid in the middle of the viewfinder for focussing. Ignore the surrounding clear area of the viewfinder - no matter how sharp it looks - looks can be deceiving. If you're utilising the focussing aid already - then cool! Keep having fun shooting. I shoot heaps of time lapse myself - thats my idea of fun.
Hey, Cheung - you're testing out a Krasnogork 3 16mm camera right? Please tell me about the results because Ive ordered the same camera myself and Im really interested in the type of quality that can be obtained with this camera.
Focusing? Did you zoom all the way in and then focus? If you do when you zoom out to frame the shot all will STAY in focus. Zoom in, focus, pull out to frame, and shoot. The subject will be in focus if you zoom in while shooting.
I just shot another 15 feet today, I went down to 'Stanley' where the dragon boat races were on. I got some footage of this one boat captain getting thrown into the water. haha.
Patrick, yea, I used the focusing aid. I didn't have a clue about the camera features at first and wouldn't have known about that if I didn't read the downloaded manual. Hope the results are good, if so I'll try and get it online.
Homer, where are you getting your 16mm film? I heard you can get it in Kwun Tong or Kowloon Tong. (Can't remember which.) About the rain, its rainy season now, I think it would be cool to just do a project shooting water and rain........
R8mm, yea, I think I did the focusing thing right. Will know in a few months I guess!
