When this gets off the ground http://www.onsuper8.org would be more than happy to provide any assistance and publicity via our main and news pages as the society develops - and also, if deemed appropriate we could provide resource and internet information via that we've amassed so far.

Are you going to have "associate" type memberships for organisations as well as "individuals"?

Regards,
This is all great and moving nicely. Took the weekend off from over-posting here - plus transfer biz is starting to take off.
I will email my info to Michael. I will have money for fees, T-shirt. This will be the first club I have ever joined - however little is accomplished, it will be worth the doing.

Links on business sites to this forum?
Blurbs about S8 on film sites not devoted to S8?

Flatwood, I'm very sad to hear your report.

Well I've really done it to myself now...~:?)

Oh well okay. But this is all still like a dream one awakens from, trying to recall the details, still feeling the mood, but trying to figure out what it means, what it will mean.
I think if we build the site, they will come...sorry, couldn't resist. But if we get the website up, with a simple stated mandate - to promote a more general awareness of S8 - and get it linked enough, part of the mandate will have been in a very small way already accomplished. Also link it to already existing sites with information about recent accomplishments in S8.
In short, the more real we make it *seem*, the more real it may become.

....thats a pretty good mission statement. Try adding the words film making after S8 and see how it reads to you.

twotoneska wrote:The big thing, like you mentioned, is going to be finding a way to woo people from mini DV. That's going to be hard when it costs anywhere between 10 and 20 dollars for one 2 and a half minute cartridge of film, and only 6 bucks for a mini DV tape. We have to make them understand that their dollar is well spent.
Don't compare footage prices, compare equipment prices. Like, you could advertize with a slogan such as Your $30 High-Definition camera!

Anyway, a big turn-off for most people nowadays is they think that shooting on films means editing on film, so educating about cheap and reliable telecining structures and NLE must be emphasized.

That's a great point. Thanks for bringing that up.

Granted, super 8 isnt for everyone but I regularly see young "film" makers shooting on MDV who shoot at the Tennessee studio property who are actually shocked when I show them a little super 8 camera and what the results are when it hits the small screen.

I'd like to emphasize, by 'telecining structures', I didn't mean DIY methods but infrastructures as I'm afraid anything DIY aka off-the-wall would yield results suffering of video problems which but are frequently associated with S8's poor reputation.

Oh, and I think that for any advertizing, late-70s and 1980s black S8 models should be used, silver Nizos, or Beaulieus, as those are closest to what young people expect reliable cams to look like while any other models look too much like mechanical antiquity.

Mitch - your point is spot on!

I recently read a post on a blog which had linked to a number of Super 8 sites including onsuper8.org which was basically saying that there was more information on the format available than ever before, the short article went to say that this proved there was a renaissance happening.

This got me to thinking - is there a renaissance happening or is it that there's more infromation? I guess it doesn't matter - more information means the format is more accessible and if its more accessible, those who might be prediposed to taking up the film "challenge" will do so as they know that there's a vibrant and active support network.

There are countless negative stocks available - in fact there are over 40 super 8 film products in the market place at the moment....
