Sleep Always nears 200 sales - a special offer

Post by Rick Palidwor »

Super 8 feature Sleep Always has now sold 198 copies. (Wittner Kinotech just ordered 20 more, having sold the first 20 they bought).

For the next 7 days, starting...now, anyone ordering a copy who sites this message gets free shipping.

If you've ever been curious as to whether you can shoot good looking movie on super 8 you should order this dvd and see for yourself. This is also a good way to show support for super independent film making.

Thanks for the nod Flatwood, and thanks for the order Mattias. We are at 199. Anyone want to be magic 200?

I got my copy of Sleep Always quite a while back. It was one of the first things I did after I joined this forum. Honestly, I didn't know what to expect when I put it in my DVD player, but I thought it was very interesting and well done. As I learned more about Super8 (very quickly), I realized exactly what a hassle it must have been to sync the dialog, how much work it actually was, and that raised Sleep Always to a whole new level, in my opinion. Great job.

Maybe it's time for me to list another Super Duper 8 camera on eBay with a link to the Sleep Always site. That always seems to sell a copy.

As an aside, the soundtrack of this film is another great reason to buy it. They managed to sneak in at least three dozen tunes from an eclectic collection of Canadian indie bands. Besides, this DVD is worth picking up to see what's possible if you spend a couple of years toiling with tons of Super 8 gear and some homemade equipment (dollys, steadycam knockoffs, video assists, and so on).

And Rick, I still think you should make a follow-up movie starring Ed Fielding (the neighbour).

You are 200! You win a rusty lug nut. If only this wasn't super 8 I could offer more.

When we went public with the movie lots of people expressed interest, but no one bought a copy until I got paypal. Thank you "impulse purchase". Thank you.

Rick, where can we get the soundtrack of the film?
I already have the DVD and loved the tunes on it.

That's something any film producer should think about just make sure you have the rights lined up before putting a cd out. Mechanical (sales) royalties are minimal for the writers and publishers. It's not really an issue unless you find yourself with a hit on your hands (and you truly never know when or where its gonna come from). You dont want to be scrambling for rights, you want to be selling while the iron is hot.

The soundtrack for Sleep Always is pro. Great sounds, foley and tunes. My partner thought it was the Stray Cats at first. I dont know if that's good or bad but she thought it was good.

Why so few sales? 200 copies is pretty poor for a feature film, with a ready made audience of super-8 fanatics would will lap up anything made on the format.

Unfortunately most of the super low bud films on smaller formats out there are pretty crappy technically but this one is well done. Maybe sales will start coming in a little more for them.

What's impressive to me is that they've not given up or become bitter by the process and thats easy to do; I see it all the time as part of the general media production industry.

One music artist we worked with early on struggled for years to get it going and just when it looked like nothing was gonna work he got something to take off and this past year he was CMA Artist of the Year and Ive got a nice multi platinum RIAA award on my studio wall.

You just dont know when its going to come but you keep on pushing, like you I imagine.
