Question Regarding My Projector--->>>Please help---

I was given this used projector as a gift from my cousin :

It works great but I still don't understand how sound can be used with it.I've seen the mic output and the sound recording button but does this mean I can playback sound film/record sound over a blank film???

Can anyone give me some info on the features of a sound projector and how they are used exactly?

hi. The sound feature is for after processing you can add a magnetic sound strip and you can record on that.
Fuji's single 8mm offers you to put sound on the film at processing to record on a SUPER 8 projector like yours.

Hi,

there are two different types of soundtracks for Super8:
Magnetical and optical. (The later one is very, very rare to find.)

AFAIK your projector can only handle "magnetical" soundtracks. "Magnetical" soundtracks can be (re-)recorded/deleted like any tape/VHS-tape/... .

Super8/Single8-film was sold with and without "magnetical" soundtracks.
Now it's only sold without "magnetical" soundtracks. But there are several labs that can add such a soundtrack to your processed film: Fuji, Fipra, ... . You can even find sound-striping-devices on eBay, hence you can do this at home, too - as long as your film isn't polyester-based (like the Single8-Fujichrome and the positive prints made by Andec from Super8-negative-film).

To find out if a film has got at least a mono-magnetic-soundtrack, see if it looks like a tape left of the yellow line:

One more thing,you all refer to silent films right , that you can add a soundtrack to them,but what about originally made s8 sound film,can my projector produce sound from them or can it only deal with silent film with an added soundtrack?

Yes, you can play sound film that was shot using a sound camera and the super-8 sound cartridge, which was introduced around 1973 but sadly discontinued about 10 years ago. You can also play commercially produced sound films. I guess there were also single-8 sound cameras but I know little about them.

THere were...and still are (!!) commercially produced movies on super 8 with magnetic soundtrack.

And one or two other companies are still selling what one might liken to "pre-recorded" films. Anything from cartoons, adverts, short films right up to full length features. Many are classic material but some are brand new...including exerpts from recent Star Wars, Matrix and Lord of the Rings movies...
