All these good and bad experiences we encountered would make a good comedy sketch starring no other than Michael Palin and John Cleese.

Michael walks into John's photo store.

Mike: "Can I have a roll of 64T super 8, a step up ring and a 62mm 85 filter?"

John: "What are you trying to do....?"
:D

Mike: "No! No! No! It's not dead, can't you see it's still breathing?"

Points to the yellow and blue box behind the counter.

John: "This...is...a dead format!"

It's a great thing we wouldn't need Graham Chapman for this sketch. :P

What was the cheese shop thing again?

Or let's have, "The S8 Twit of the Year!" ;)

Could be the butcher sketch.

I think it was John and Michael again...or was it Eric?

john: I'd like four rolls of 64T super 8 please.

Eric: Certainly, and anything else sir?

John: How about a 62 to 67mm step up ring, my good man?

Eric: What the bleedin' hell do you think I am here for, to cater to your every whim?

this could continue ad infinitum, the salesman alternates between polite helpful responses and abusing the customer...who gets more bemused.

Ah, *that* one. :)

"The combattants are trying to shoot the attractive neighbor undressing in the window on the other side of the street...oops, Oliver shot his leg with a winchester, accidently!"

"Now, they're going for the darkroom processing! Precious footage like this can't be handed to public labs! No Oliver, those chemicals are not for drinking!"

Cheese shop sketch might be more appropriate for super-8.

"You...do *have* some film, don't you?"

"Of course, sir. It's a camera shop, sir. We've got--"

"No no... don't tell me. I'm keen to guess."

I see, yeah, that does go better with our theme than the bipolar disorder sketch. :P

So.You get shitty and negative responses from your local photo store right?
Then tell 'em bollocks and buy the stuff mail order-there is boat loads of the stuff about!

You could alway defect to original Regular8 though-that seems easier to use and obtain.

I don't even bother with camera stores anymore. They're holding on by a thread,at least in my neck of the woods anyway.

Super 8 will always be supported by a small group of enthusiasts as it's no longer a "people's format" anymore.I remember when VHS first came out with portable tube cameras and decks. They sucked major ass,but I remember sales people were saying that within a year, super 8 film would no longer be made as it "couldn't hold a candle to video".

That was back in 1980.

Camera/deck units were going for around 1500 USD then.Vidicon tubes and VHS decks,250 lines of resolution and NO way to edit.Yeah right,so superior to film.
