if you want a beaulieu you should look for a proper movie cam like the 3008 or 5008 not the strobe master 4008. the non 4s use a proper motion shutter speed equivalent, and have i ever seen a "sharp" image from a beaulieu posted here? (credit: all reservations for the processes between though) or projected for that matter.
the 5008 MS is rock solid built and when seviced - has a very low noise level. maybe not topping Nizos but a long way there - its a sound cam in a heavy metal box like the R16 for heavans ake.
in terms of cam technology and performance the Canon is in a totaly different league no Beaulieu ever came close to.
may be of interest that the C has a variable shutter: normal = 150° - option is 220° (XL) for low light shoot and that it can read up to ISO/ASA800 in auto mode while the Bs liste only do 400 - with mixed accuracy.
best thing about the beaulieus:
all manual settings for ASA/ISO up to 400
worst (1) hopeless internal lightmeter/exposure control
worst (2) idotic (reglatic) external motors making manual zoom n focus (almost) impossible
worst (3) needs servicing once a year.
and dont even think you can switch lenses without colimating each and every one - including the one that comes with you cam - to get things into focus.
personally i love simple manual setting cams whether slr or cine becaus it is very simple but there is no doubt that the canons with the computer controlled AE1 metering / exposure control can take you where no other cam can take you or any "experts" rule of thumb can cope with.
s8hoot fun whatever you decide to go for - in the end it is your capacity which decides the results.
