8O I note, with dismay, that this website is playing hosts to more and more 'guests'.Most of them talk good sense, others are space-wasters.What is the problem with these people who are unable to reveal their identity in some form or another, other than a mysterious 'guest' handle? 'Guest' is a great name to hide behind when some non constructive advice or comment is levelled.

By selective action it may be possible to "silence them out"?

..tnx for reminding me Michael Lehnert.... or Santo or.... cinematography.com super8 - the forum of Rednex, Wannabees and Pretenders...
I accidentally made 2 of the initial 'guest' posts in the anamrph thread. I didn´t intend to tho... It´s seems I get logged out again after just a little while. And I usually notice that just after having completed a post!
I hate when it says guest instead of my nick. Does that "log-me-in-automaticly-everytime-i-visit-the-site" feature work good ?
I also admit having posted as 'Guest' one or two times before, but never to write something offensive to anyone or about anything. It´s been because I forgot to login or have been in a real hurry to do something, away from keyboard.
Sorry guys. I´ll try not to do that again.

how? it never worked for me. the last time we had this discussion we soon realized that everyone who thought the feature worked were actually just using the "remember password" feature of their browsers. if this isn't the case here, what happens if you check that box on the login screen, and what happens if you don't?Old Uncle Barry wrote:Yes the auto log-on feature works very well indeed.

The auto log in feature works fine if you never delete your cookies. I have two computers. On one of them I delete the cookies often and, every time I do, I have to log in again when I visit this site. On the other computer, I never delete the cookies and I've never had to log in after the first time.
Beyond that, I also feel that the "guest" or anonymous posting is annoying. I think that anyone who posts in public forum should make themselves known. Otherwise, it's like hurling insults from the back of the crowd and when eveyone turns to see who said it, the mystery person also turns to look around as if he had nothing to do with it. Pointless and a bothersome distraction, in my opinion.

I mostly use a library computer. It's hardly secure, and has been known to harbor keystroke capture software from the local juvenile hackers who also frequent the library. I don't depend on or expect the librarian to know all about computers to that degree. When I post at the library on this very public and insecure system, I do not type in my ID's or login to any accounts, including and especially email. I also don't post very often. I mostly read to learn. Personally, I think it is a 50/50 of responsibility with what is good and not nearly so good when it comes to those that log in and those that don't. I've seen many a poor post from those that post while logged in as well. Considering the bashing posted under Ooohhh !!!!! Ericmartinjarvies by the logged in, it is rather odd that the guest moniker is being questioned as a result. The guest moniker in that post simply was actually complaining about the behavior. I don't blame them for not posting their name on the message. An apology and change in behavior would be more appropriate for the instance of that bashing. Before you blame all your problems on the term guest, openly police the posts themselves first.
and thus you can't use a better alias than guest? in you hadn't noticed there's a username field that can be used even if you're not logged in. i'm using it right now as a matter of fact.Anonymous wrote:I mostly use a library computer.
you miss the point again. this is not about being anonymous or not, it's about knowing who you're talking to. how is one supposed to be able to discuss anything at all if there are several guest posts that you don't know if they all come from a single poster or ten different people? is "super8 booster" less anonymous than "guest"? and what about "18fps"?I don't blame them for not posting their name on the message.

or I could just be another anonymous guest....
As do you for this particular reason as stated below.mattias not logged in wrote:you miss the point again
I think the point is made and it's pretty self explanatory as I sign this using a very public and insecure method on a very public and insecure system. :lol:When I post at the library on this very public and insecure system, I do not type in my ID's or login to any accounts,

No, Mattias really understood the point and you haven't understood his. Just as you cheekily posted "Not Mattias Not Logged In," you could just as easily post under the name "fruity balls," "curried socks," "crazy daze," "arse-wipe," "Kenneth Branagh" or even, your name!!!! You could post only your first name, if you prefer. It is nice to be able to reply to a "distinct" anonymous post, such as Gianluca or Fred. Anyway, you get the point, surely?

TO WEBMASTER: CHANGE LOG-IN ROUTINES
there´s really nothing much more to say, I respect people´s want for privacy, but this want is in NO NON-PARANOIAC WAY compromised by using a steady fake name.
For the sake of the maintaining the normally good level of civility of this forum, I suggest that people will continue being able to post as guests, or under different pseudonyms, but not without leaving their e-mail adress! So people can continue to participate, even as non-members. This is a quite common practice on many forums. For the sake of privacy, they can always use a special email adress for the purpose of belonging to this communinty (if so paranoiac-schizoidly inclined).
I think that this is quite fair, taking part in the benefits of this community should imply some responsebility (as does any community, like it or not).
This is of course my personal opinion, but maybe we could have a poll on it?
