vision 2 nizo 6080 samples

Post by the woy »

had the transfer of my footage today.
this is the follow up to this thread: Vision 2 metering on nizo 6080
deceiving. the pressure plate made it worse. back focus was blown away to somewhere unbeknown, totally off on most (wider) shots, either tape measured and/or viewfinder checked. ultra wide III shots are unusable, the viewfinder didn't show the un-focused subject matter, everthing was perfect sharp. those small format cameras are a real pain in the arse when it comes to 'real' focusing. well at least, tape measure proved us right.
grain is boiling, the 1 f-stop overexposed shots look much better, the telecine also likes it more.

1. without plate

2. with plate, same setup

3. our only in focus wide angle shot (paper wasn't focused in viewfinder

4. outside without uwl III, but still focus soft

a sample clip with various shots, 8 MB , xvid avi

cheers. nic

cool. now im definitly not buying that pressure plate.
always thought it was nonsense. S8 is crap thats why i like it.
the film is very jumpy but the pressure plate bits seem less so.
but maybe not anyone else sees it?

pressure plate ??

Post by zaefod »

Does anyone find the Vision2 stock to be more stable in the cassette than the Vision stock? I hear that the pressure plate add on isn't all that great at what it is supposed to do. I have had several Vision cassettes that were quite jittery. I later found out that this is a common occurance for this stock.

I didn't find it very stable, neither without nor with the pressure plate. just take a look at the clip. but thats super8, jittery - so we've decided to shoot our short without the plate.

I have shot many rolls that were stable. I guess that it depends on the cassette. Have you shot the original Vision Super 8? If so, do you find the newer stuff more stable?

Beautiful pictures and footage, it looks exactly like film should. :D

EDIT: Like previous folks said, the preassure plate is not that impressive!.

On my recent shoot I shot 5 rolls of V2200t and 2 rolls of V2500t. I was using a beaulieu 5008 and a 4008.

I found the telecined footage to be the most stable footage I've ever shot. Rock steady. Although, I've only ever shot K40 and projected it before that.

No I haven't, only K40 - which was not better or worse than this. But then I only saw it projected with frameline in picture. i thought steadiness would improve noticable with the pressure plate - just as advertised, but mmh. I also never had any backfocus problems with my camera, ok it goes softer beyond f-stop 2, but tape and viewfinder focusing was no problem. and now this. 70 % of the whole reel unusable.
very strange.
