If I remember correctly, I once read that the Kodachrome S8mm film is 0,12mm thick, and Fujichrome Single 8mm is 0,09mm thick.

So if Fuji film is 3/4 of the thickness of Kodak, 50' of Fuji will fit will take up the space normally occupied by 37.5' of Kodak.

The remaining space, normally 12.5' of Kodak will take 16.666' of Fuji.

(It's the same as (50/3) X 4)

Meaning that in a 50' Kodak Super8 cartridge, you should technically be able to fit 66.6' of Fuji film. (extra 50 seconds at 24fps = 3mins, 20secs)

In a 200' cartridge, you could therefore fit 266.6' of Fuji. (extra 200 secs at 24fps = 13mins, 20 secs)

I may be wrong, but I've double checked it.... 8O

I think sometimes we have to take a step back and see just what it is we are saying. Here we are talking about trying to cram more Fuji film into a Kodak cartridge when some of the biggest threads on this website have been devoted to the problems with thin film stocks in Kodak cartridges! Are we glutons for punishment or what? 8) I'd like to see a movement towards roll film. If Fuji would make DS8mm available, then I think they'd find a niche market waiting. Still, it's nice to muse about possibilities and everyone would welcome longer filming from each cartridge. My two cents.

reloadable Cartridges

Post by Carlos 8mm »

All We need is a new metal-pressure plate reloadable cartridge.
Not Kodak´s plastic pressure plate dismissable cartridges.

I think it works like I thought: the capstan drive is managing the speed control of the camera friction, creating a tension between capstan and central sprocket. This way, the central sprocket can pull the fresh film with the correct speed. It probably will NOT work at framerates different to 18 and 24 fps, only at framerates supported by the capstan drive.

Nihonjin San.

Do I understand this correctly if I understand these Single8/super8 adapters are sold as do-it-your-self-kits? Parts supplied only?

The actual assembly has to be done by yourself and the price for the kit is about $80 = ¥?

Measured a K40 with a micrometer and this processed film piece was exactly 0.14 mm thick. Unfortunately I have no Single8 to compare with.

TO S8 Booster;

I think it is sold as DIY kits. You can kindly ask him to sell these parts. I don't know exactly how much these parts cost because I was the first person to post on his BBS and he gave me these parts for free.

I think there are 2 sets availble.
1.- basic parts set (5000 Yen/about US$41.70)
2.- all incl. set (13000 Yen/about US$108.30).

Exchange rate is US$1.00 = 120Yen.
