Just Ordered my First S8 Stock in Years!

I just picked up a roll of Vision2 200T (Kodak's stuff, not Pro8) at B&H Photo. I was surprised that they had any S8 at all. It turns out that they also still have the old Ektachrome 7240, E64T and the two black and white stocks as well. I'll probably be ordering some of the 7240 at the end of the week when I have the ducats to do it.

Not quite useless. My question - where can you get 7240 developed nowadays? I thought processing had gone away by now.

Glad to hear you're getting back into it. What made you decide to return to small format film making? What are you planning on shooting? Is this a hobby or part of your business?

I wasn't aware there were issues w/processing for 7240. I think both Pro8mm and Spectra Film and Video in L. A. still handle processing even though they don't sell the film anymore, and Yale Labs would be my next guess. I'll let you guys know as I go. It should be fairly soon, though.

As for what got me back into it, it was largely this board. One of the first posts I saw here was Yemi's (?) examples of Vision2 stock. In fact, I'd have to say that that alone made me wanna get back into it. Last time I shot anything with S-8, K40 was still around and E-160 was just killed off (all they had was the Type G stuff). I had also shot a roll of Pro8/45 on and off over three years (Yes, that's right--I never finished off the roll and sent it in for processing).

I guess you could say I'm a highly advanced amateur looking to go pro one day. I've done lots of camera work on other people's stuff, but never directed anything for myself. I want to, though, and I wanted to stay with film rather than MiniDV, so I chose Super-8.

As for Strange, I'm sorry my post didn't overload his excitement meter, but that wasn't really my intention in the first place.

I'll post my test results as soon as I can, but I'm still trying to find the best places to get high-quality processing and/or video transfer work done.

Once again, thanks to all you guys for turning me on to Super-8 again.

Why bother with 7240? Anything floating around is stale anyway, and wasn't that great to begin with. Try the new 64T, less grain, better colors, and you can get it processed at a bunch of places.

I'd actually thought the same thing, but unfortunately I can't shoot E64T on my camera (Canon 514XL-S) without a lot of trickery that I just don't have the patience to perform.

As it is, I'm probably going to be off on my exposure with the 7240, but I'll be off by less.

If I can get my 814 Auto Zoom fixed, then I won't have to worry because it can handle everything Super-8 out there.

Cameras are CHEAP, you can find one that will expose the 64T for less than what you will throw away shooting 7240. I shot some that was kept frozen, about 6 months ago, and showed signs of expiration.

Get a Leicina Special...oh wait, WRONG forum! No, stick with your Canon until you come across something better (in your estimation, that is, not mine or others opinions). I typically find that I start considering another camera and lo and behold, there are a ton of them on e8ay or something...or worse, I buy the first one I see then find three others that are cheaper!!!
