I like the 16mm and "In Production" sections on cinematography.com, but for S8 and general OT discussion this is one of the most active film-related forums on the internet, with a population that is generally mentally functional

Santo came out swinging against Juergen for posting frequent updates about small format's need for subscriptions. It resulted in deletion of the small format thread. My comments on that board:etimh wrote:What?! What is this all about? What kind of pull does he have over there?
"... that kind of destructive behaviour from Santo is beyond reprehensible. With one hand this character openly questions the intelligence of people who participate in the filmshooting.com forum, and with the other he attempts to eviscerate an attempt to start a new English language film magazine.
I for one put in a few weeks of work after my son had gone to bed -- between 10 and 2 in the morning -- to help get that first issue out. The reality is that smallformat is very much a part-time enterprise. ... I think our anonymous friend would do well to remember that just because something looks like it was put out by a huge corporation doesn't mean that it is so."

Here are Santos sightings that relate to small format magazine....etimh wrote:What?! What is this all about? What kind of pull does he have over there?Alex wrote:On another note, Santos had the Small Format Magazine subscription topic successfully removed from the Cinematography.com Super-8 forum.
That guy, I swear, I hope I run into him some day. We'll have some words.

I thought http://www.cinematography.com to be an open forum. It is the second time a topic of mine has been completely deleted there. For me, this is nothing else but censorship. A little bit strange - maybe they play the long arm of KODAK taking revenche for my critical statements concerning K40?
Alex, you are right: all those 2,000 people getting a copy of small format free of charge do not know about the deadline of Nov 22. But they had 8-10 weeks time to decide if they want to subscribe or not. There was a postcard inside any magazine and there was a whole page advertising the subscription details with eMail address and so on. Furthermore the publishers enclosed a letter with all details about small format. I personally do not think that after 8-10 weeks there will arrive substantially more subscriptions. If people like the mag, they subscribe right away - or never. Of course one could send out a reminder to every address again but this will take US $ 3,000 and I am not sure that the amount from the returning subscriptions will be higher than the invested capital.

If you want to advertise you may do so, but it will cost you some money.

Couldn't a postcard be sent for around 50-75 cents each?Juergen wrote:

Postcard size reminder with email address & regular mailing address options for subscribing with a Dec. 15, 2005 deadline might do the trick.
Keep the mailing to a thousand names, might only cost $500-1,000 dollars, no?
Or just try a hundred names and based on the percentage response decide if it's worth it to do the other 1,900.
If you had completely read my post you would have noticed the 100 postcard option I presented, which would probably cost less than a hundred dollars.tlatosmd wrote:Do you happen to have 500-1,000 bucks to spare lying around Alex? I doubt that many people here have.
See how many people out of a hundred respond, then extrapolate that number by a factor of 20 to see what the result would for 2000 postcards.
It's possible thats the response from the first 100 post cards creates enough cash flow to then send out the rest of the postcards.
the postcard option is still worth a try.
If out of the 2,000 magazines sent at least a thousand don't know about the deadline, then the question becomes out of those one thousand how many would subscribe to save the magazine.
If just 10 percent get subscriptions, that would be 100 subscriptions.
Keep in mind that's assuming half already know about the deadline.
If only 25% know about the Nov 22 deadline, then only 7.5 out of every one hundred need to subscribe to help meet the deadline.
