I consider it momentum building rather than a nice gesture. However, I'll try to increment the sales price a bit higher because we don't want people relying on the newstand rather than subscribing, unless I can keep raising what I spend on bulk magazine orders.

But that probably wouldn't be until issue three.

Jürgen, where do you recruit new subscribers?

I hope you're not only doing this over the internet because there are so many people out there. I'm thinking about filmschools, filmclubs, production communities and many many more...

just a thought.

The "save the k40 petition" has some 5000 signatures or something, and if I remember correct there was an option when you signed it to make your email public or something. Is it possible to get hold of these emails and remind them of saving "small format"?
Or maybe this would be unethical?

Considering the problems that this English version of the magazine is having due to lack of subscriptions, how in the world have you possibly managed to keep the German-language version afloat all these years? Is the German (and wider German-speaking) small-format community large enough to sustain a magazine like this on its own? Or has it always been some kind of money-losing tax shelter or vanity endeavor?

Is it really the case that the rest of the ENTIRE English-speaking Super 8 community around the globe is failing to come through to make this English version worth publishing? Or was it hoped that this version actually might be considerably more profitable somehow? Because it just doesn't make any sense that the German-language version would be making that much more money than this new magazine could, or at least seems like it could.

That's exactly what Juergen tried to point out during all those pro/contra K40 discussions: the German amateur market, as unbelievable as it may seem, is HUGE, much bigger than many other countries together

Nonetheless, I think it's saddening indeed that the rest of the world seems unable to reach the targeted subscriptions!

Using the internet to download a PDF of the Subscription sheet that has already been sent to Dwaynes would allow the internet community to fan out to their local communities and post the sheet in their local camera store.

Hey Alex, how are the in-store sales going around Los Angeles? I went into the EPFC today and they had them in several different locations--on the counter, under the counter, in a rack. I mean, this place is ground zero for the Super 8 community in LA. They should be pumping those things out the door with every person who enters the place.

They are having some success, they've sold around 10 so far. I don't know what they are selling them for however, did you happen to notice what price?

It's great advertising that they have them sitting all over the place.

On another note, Santos had the Small Format Magazine subscription topic successfully removed from the Cinematography.com Super-8 forum.

Locations so far include...

Camarillo Camera (Ventura County), News Mart, Bel Air Camera (UCLA/Westwood), Spectra Film & Video (North Hollywood), Yale Labs (North Hollywood), Echo Park Film Center, (Echo Park, just north of Downtown Los Angeles) and coming soon, The Darkroom (Northridge, CA)....

These locations cover quite a bit of Los Angeles. Samy's camera is a logical location as well, but I haven't been there yet.

Please subscribe first and then consider the above locations for purchasing a second magazine (perhaps at a reduced rate, maybe not, depending on where you go) to give to a friend or so that you can preserve your first copy in good condition.

Don't worry Alex(tm), (just kidding...), seriously, looks like that place is a dead forum from the looks of things around there. Few posts and most seem to be by one person on any given time I visit.

Let's face it, this forum ROCKS!
My website - check it out...

Cinematography.com is probably close to being the second most active English speaking Super-8 forum on the web, so it's not necessarily a "dead" forum.

But how many of those people that you sent magazines to also visit the internet AND visit Super-8 forums. Perhaps at most half.

That would mean that a thousand of those magazines went to people who do not know about your Nov. 22 deadline.

What?! What is this all about? What kind of pull does he have over there?

That guy, I swear, I hope I run into him some day. We'll have some words.

I second that! Occasionally there is some interesting conversation or informative bit in one of the forums but cinematography.com is generally an uptight place. And there is nothing really going on in the Super 8 Only board. This is definitely the place. 8)
