You guys are out to lunch, its the Minolta D12
At last! Someone who knows what a hell of a mashine is that beast from Minolta. I always wondered why anyone isn't reffering to this camera. Canons, Beaulieus, etc etc.. Hasn't anyone tried it? Am I the only one who is astonished with this? ...

I say, the Minolta D12 is a very good choice. The best looking of the D cameras, which were an ugly lot, but this was the handsome youngest brother who went on to marry into nobility. A much improved handle over the rest, as well. Good show.

Yes sir, I have a couple of these amazingly solid cameras. Really they are no different than the Nikon R10 and Canon 1014E in performance. They are pretty rare which is why you don't hear much about em. I feel the Minolta is more solid, I mean you'd swear it was chiseled out of rock and it makes a Beaulieu 4008 feel like a Bentley B-3.

My avatar is the Canon 512 R8 taken from the brochure cover which is a very nice solid camera. However, for regular 8mm nothing outclasses the Bolex B,C,D,L pocket design. Simply an amazing piece of craftmanship in both form and function. Everyone should kneel cause you just can't top them.

You can say that again! There 's no comparison between them!
I also have 2 D12s and 2 D10s, allthough I used only the D12s. That's the reason for the silly mistake I made in the other topic (D10 having auto dissolves). They are just sitting on the selve in their cases! (Shame though...)

I also agree with most people here that the Beaulieu's are the sexiest cameras, the runner up for me is the Bauer A512. Unfortunately mine stopped working.

Ain't the Beaulieus the cams that are most of all cams looking like rifles? I'd much rather shoot with a camera than with a gun.

Forget these western style cameras!
The communist world has the ultimate challenge: quarz cameras from the Soviet Union! Metal built full mechanical heavy cameras working in even extreme conditions.

And nice ones, yeeeeeah!

Just had a look at your link- that is one fantasticly ugly camera!
Interesting thing though- it says it has a pull-down claw position adjusting knob! Sounds unique and I wonder why?

When you changing your film or back winding it you need to use the Pull Down Claw Position Control...
Have you ever used ds8 mechanical cameras?

No not yet- I have an older version of this cam I think, and a roll of film sitting in my fridge taunting me.
Is this knob on all DS8 cams?
I don't really understand its requirement- I never saw it on R8 cams- can you elaborate?

Just had another look and I'm afraid I mistook the description- I assumed from the name that it moved the claw up and down like a framing knob on a projector- but I see it moves the claw out of action- a subtle difference!

Ok. To tell you the truth of course there are more beautiful cameras (I love the fuji - single 8 ). I just tried to focus on non-expensive and simple but older, nice russian cameras.
I also like the classical Austrian eumig series!

Oops  I just realised that its your avatar- no offense intended. Actually I do secretly like the look of these Russian cameras- rugged and purposeful. A damned site more interesting looking than most super8 cameras.
