the most technically advanced film camera ever made is easily the Canon 1014 XLS by a far margin - all gauges included.
ROTFLMAO- you were joking right? An advanced camera for its time for sure but a toy technologically next to a 435es.

Please point out one camera in 16 or 35 that can do lap dissolves...until then, the 1014XLS combined with its lens technology is the winner.
I'm sure any of the modern Arris could, if they were ever required to- but why? The Leicina special and I'm sure others can do lap desolves anyway, as did many R8 cameras.

My vote for most aesthetically pleasing goes to the Leicina 8S- astonishing simplicity and clean lines combined with finest quality materials and workmanship- way ahead of its time. Baby Bolex's second for their jewel like quality- the Carena is nice but quite ugly. Many many other fine quality and interesting R8 cams- great to collect.

As for S8, the Bolex ray gun cameras are interesting but flawed. The 814/1014xl-s look just like a video camera. I hated the look of the Leicina Special when I first saw it- strange styling but its workmanlike qualities grow on you. Bauers have a pleasant shape and Nizos have that classic Braun style- but in the end its gotta be the classic Beaulieus, Bauers second. For utter simplicity I like the Agfa Family- takes nice pics too.

One camera that seems to be missing from your list is the Beaulieu 7008Pro. I always felt it was a slick looking camera with the Angenieux 6-90.

The Canon 1014XL-S is great looking and always seems to draw a lot of attention from others when I shoot on location. Very modern for a super 8 camera.

The experimental Aaton super 8 was also one of my favorites.

But, if we stick to production cameras, I think it would be a tie between the 7008PRO and the Canon 1014XL-S.

so say you because you simply dont know whats built into it - that is both mechanically and electronically. sorry to say but you havent a faint idea and never will.

theres absolutely no need for 1014 "high tech" level in modern motion cams and there isnt compared to whats built into the 1014. there isnt and there never will be.

but youll never know what it is all about.

Booster, give up while you can. You're living in a dream land! Does the 1014 read or generate timecode? Can it ramp from 0-150fps keeping the same exposure? Run crystal sync at any speed? Can it handle 1000ft reels? Does it have reflex viewing with ground glass? Does it have orientable viewfinder? Does it even have interchangeable lenses? Interface to moco?
I don't know why I'm bothering- its a toy! A great toy, but really you are delirious I think. Its not even the greatest S8 camera let alone the greatest ever movie camera.

what you list up has NOTHING to do with advanced cam technology and just proves where your cam knowledge stands when it comes tio high technology..

all what you listed is just simple add ons you can apply to any simpler s8 cams appart from the kodapak 15 m limitation. 1014 speed is limited by the fact that it is a sound recording cam limiting camera max speed but its exposurecontrol is way beyond the cam you refer to. it is designed for reversal and thus controls the exposure faster than your eye will ever register - instantly - even with reversal film. so just give up. you dont stand a chance.

the 1014 is a formidable techno monster whether you like it or not on mechanichal, electonic/electromechanical or lens technology.

they all play together homogenously - its called Full Circle Enginering in Japan but i realise you have no idea the consequences or it has or what actually lies in it.

My Leicina 8S and many other simple cameras have an exposure system just as fast- its not necessarily an advantage.
You should take a look inside an Arri 435 sometime- might suprise you.
I'd love to see you add on an orientable VF and GG focussing to your 1014- please let us see it when you do- I'd be interested in a conversion for some of my cams ;-)
Honestly Booster, your position is bizarre.

"full circle engineering"- heard you say this many many times. I don't know the term but can guess what it means. Do you really think that the designers of anything serious don't take into account all the problems? Decisions have to made and costs kept- doesn't make a design perfect- how could a design be perfect?

this is not high tech at all dont you understand that?

it very simple mechanical design. either your cam is designed for that from the start or it is not. the 1014 is not but it has nothing to do with high end cam technology. get sober - please.

the 1965 and on canon scopic has an optical path not unlike the 1014 with a ground glass focussing. big deal.

an oriental viewfinder or gg focussing wont have any influence on the quality of a film production - only the knowledge of a fillmaker does. get real.

when all interacting functions keep their full spec within all extremities the cam or any other product is designed for without ANY compromises.

the canons has a performance beyond imagination in this context.

Aren't you two (S8 Booster and Sparky) really comparing apples and oranges?

exactly but my definition is still correct. complexity vs simplicity.

Really? Its a galvanometer- couldn't be quicker. I believe you are wrong, but I haven't bothered to measure it. Neither do I think its important- in fact I see it as a problem most of the time.

this is not high tech at all dont you understand that?
No- I don't.

Please explain what exactly is SO advanced about the 1014? It does nothing exceptional as far as I can see.

an oriental viewfinder or gg focussing wont have any influence on the quality of a film production - only the knowledge of a fillmaker does. get real.
I agree, but that was not your point was it? Have you been taking lessons from Alex?
