OK guys, here is a little teaser of short film in mpg1-format:
wow, that's quite a piss you took there! :D
It looks awesome!! I may not be as "seasoned" as some others on the forum here, but I'd say it looks more like 16mm instead of Super8, but you used ALL Vision2 stock, correct? It's very clean....I don't really notice many specks or dust or anything. I'm anxious to see it when it's done.

Another question for you, jukkasil:
when you were out in those woods, did you script what you wanted to do in those precise locations, or did you simply wander around and say "hmm, i think this looks like a good spot for me to take a leak...honey, roll camera" or "this is a good rock for me to stand on". Basically, did you plan the action for those locations or just come up with stuff on-the-fly? Great work so far...keep it up.
All have been shot with Super 8, both Vision2 200T(outdoor shots) and Vision2 500T (indoor shots). This teaser contains only 200T material.
We had these woods parts, but for example that piss-shot and that close up of my face (same in that dv-file) we just tried them and managed to get them work.

Evan Kubota wrote:Nice work - a few questions, though.

- what was on the ground in the shot where the piss hits the dirt? It looked like either some moss that was blown in a fast wind, or a swarm of ants/termites...

- what's in the coffin?

One or two of the shots looked like they were framed too close for that aspect ratio (2.35:1?)... other than that, excellent.
1. Ants

2. It's originally a indian sitar case, but I won't tell you what it has inside! You'll find out when film is finnished.

3. Yes, I haven't framed the whole thing yet, it's just in raw-edit mode, I just put letterbox frames to this example without using any time to frame all shots correctly. I'll do that in next week after we have discuss with film group about the raw edited version.

Simply An Outstanding Representation of Super 8

Post by CToTheH »

8)

These are by far the most impressive super 8 images I have ever seen. Better than "Sleep Always" and possibly better than " am Josh Polanski's brother".

I'm going to have to get my hands on some neg film ASAP. Reversal just doesn't cut it (except for k40).

I have a couple of questions though:

How exactly did you transfer the footage? This couldn't be a mirror box, it's too good.

Was the pressure plate nesesary since you were using the 1014xls?

Did you do any test shooting without the pressure plate?

Will the Canon 814xls/814/310xl comply with Vision2 stock at 200t and 500t?

Where did you get the processing done? and do you think you'd get significantly better quality if you would have gotten a scanned transfer (rank)?

All said and asked: I will comply with the requests of certain members that I post my stuff to talk about other people's stuff. Click the link below and enjoy my K40 S8 short all shot with a non-moded canon 814xls and a canon 310xl with a wide angle lens.

This is not a rule on this forum, and it is something you do not have to comply with. Giving opinion on what is posted is encouraged regardless of whether you post a clip or not. The originator of this request, sooper8fan, was stating his own opinion. And as such, it remains a mere opinion of his.

Great film Chris! I love that soundscape score--sounds like Negativland. Did you record and mix it yourself?

BTW, my girlfriend cheered when the woman turns the guy into a cat. :P

No one said it was a "rule" on the forum. CToTheH simply said that he was obliging some members requests that certain nit-picking negative "critics" (so to speak) put up their own work for scrutiny.

Stop stirring up trouble Lunar07.

I am not stirring up any trouble and it is strange that you view it as such. Just clarifying. Also, notice the use of the word "comply." Not your stated 'oblige." There is a big difference between his 'to comply with' and your more lax 'to oblige someone.' Right?
I was clarifying that he does not have to COMPLY with anything since there is NO rule. I did not say that he does NOT have to OBLIGE someone. Since that was NOT the issue. Right?
You see, these things take a life on their own. And we do not want to transform this forum into an exclusive club. You would not want that, would you?

I don't think anybody said it was a rule, holmes. Have you posted any clips around here? If so, please link us to them so I can give you what is "merely" my opinion.

I really liked the moon crashing in fadeless after the screen had faded to black. However, the timing of your focus changes didn't always seem to work for me.

Also, the natural, sober colors (being it's film) don't quite seem to work for an epical Cinemascope ratio to me, I'd rather go with 1:1.88, 16:9 (aka 1:1.77), or 1:1.66 cropping.

Tim

Thank you for the compliment. I recorded the music myself using fruityloops to mix. I made a beat and then set the doorbell into an arpeg. minor from what I remember.

What is negativland?

As for your girlfriend cheering - awsome!

I did not think that either! But a 'misreading' of what you stated right at the start of this thread is leading some to try and 'comply with a rule.' I am really glad you do not think it is a rule. So we agree on this then! Power of logic is amazing!
