what do you people think of 16mm projector

Siemens 2000 ?

It has a 500W lamp...

Does somebody know this machine?

I ineed to get a strong lamp portable projector,

i saw a photo and short description of this one some time ago

Hi ya,

I´ve got one, it´s an excellent projector. Rock steady.

This machine has a variable shutter (from 2 to 3 blades), wich means that you can transfer film to video (PAL) at 16 2/3 fps or 25 fps, or reduce the flicker using the 3 blades shutter projecting at 24 fps.

My 1958 Siemens 2000 was modified to be used as Telecine, an reproduces optical & magnetical sound.

The weak point is the tube sound amplifier. Very noisy. Perhaps you may change the amplifier for a better sound reproduction.

The old tube amp needs an overhaul with new capacitors and usually tubes too + cleaning of the potentiometers. Then it gives very nice audio. Later models can have one of the three different solid state amplifiers. The main difference is the output power, and in most cases these solid state version do not have the magnetic recording capability.
You can also find a silent version of the projector.

One can put in a 750 or 1000W bulb also, but the current to the filamanet has to be controlled with the built-in potentiometer. I have a scanned late fifties manual for the projector, if You someday need one.

If we do not count the modern halogen lamps giving more light, this is a great projector and I have been pleased with it.

It is a good machine, I know it from my time at school. But it is very heavy and not really transportable. Loading is all manual. Halogen projectors with 250 W lamp are brighter and lamps are cheaper than the 500 W bulb.
I got a Bauer P8 for EUR 96 at ebay. Very bright, zoom lens, excellent sound and DC motor. Not so heavy to transportate. I can even sync this machine to my crystal sync box.
For serious use, I really would go for a P8. Siemens 2000 looks very good in a museum.

am just exploring this glorious metallic green heavyweight & am already in a fix: how do you release the raised forward arm please - & how do you unlock the folded-down rear arm?

yes i have the manual but it is pretty sparse about the basics - good on everything else though!

The arms on my Siemens 2000 are spring-loaded; you've just got to press them to one side to fold them away or move them to a detent position.

Yes thanks - fell into the swing of it after about an hour, i could see there was 'give' on one side of the arm and pushing in that direction took it out of the lock

can't wait to get this baby up & running!

Hi,

My Siemens came with assurance that it was asbestos-free and I was shown the asbestos-clear lamp house and kindly given a demonstartion of the working projector. . I noticed the projectionist-seller was not wearing breathing aperatus, which has got to be a good sign. Still, I have since been informed that there are other nooks and crannies where asbestos can lurk on this machine - does anyone know of a sure-fire check for this stuff on a 2000 model please?

As I say I queried this with the seller & he said the machine had been upgraded and was now asbestos-free so i am fairly cool about the matter.

Any advice appreciated

I have been kindly sent some information on this issue but it is in German i'm afraid and it is beyond me.
