An Everest Super 8 Camera?

A pity, but still very desirable. I am soon to sign up for an Everest climb for next year, and am wrestling with the correct Super 8 camera to take. Now, it is common knowledge that Bolex is the camera to take on such expeditions to the poles and darkest Africa, but they are 16mm and 8mm. What shall I take for Super 8? I say, batteries won't do.

in those temps?

sorry mate - only hq plain sewing machine oil will do.

silicone gets far to sticky in the cold.

Not so sure- maybe silicon oil then. Petroleum based lubes will almost certainly give problems (inc sewing machine oils) Kodak recommend removing ALL lubricants- not sure what he's going to do about the film lube?
I guess keep the cam in a warm place- maybe a smaller battery camera (microflex)would be better.

silicone mixed oil is way more sticky than plain regular sewing machine oil in real low temps. big difference in viscosity. verified. at least those avail here.

Another Swede which impressed me a lot - allthough not ski champ - was GÃƒÂ¶ran Kropp who in 1996 or so took his bicycle an rode from Sweden to Nepal, Climbed the Mount Everest all alone without Ox and after jumped on his bike and rode home. I think his slogan was "boredom kills" but apparently he was killed in an climbing accident in USA in 2002.

I second that. But don't pay too much. You can find them on ebay for $25. Pro8 charges a couple hundred $.

Get a Bolex that's been converted to DS-8. Better yet, use 16mm.

Not to sound out of line but, I really think you're required to post these videos or linked here! Everest, I wish the best of luck to you but I'm wondering if i'm reading too much into this sentence

Are you taking 16mm/8mm cameras too? I'm with Actor in saying you should take 16mm just for backup to such an event of your lifetime. That is of course if you can take a 16mm and a super 8.

Lubricants? IIRC Arri removes lube from cameras going to frigid climates. But I've also heard graphite is used for cold weather shooting.
