Re: what double 8 and double super 8 film do you wish existe

I think all of us amateur film makers want a reversal stock that approximates what was available back in the day when these cameras were designed and sold. In the US you can buy very expensive E100D and some 100-125ASA B&W stuff. I'm finding that 100D is actually a little too fast for bright ...

Re: Ektachrome 100D questions

There is a 50asa reversal film available at kahl.de and the price is including the processing.

Thanks for the info, I'm guessing that is Cinechrome 50D. The site is all in German, and even if they sell to the US I guessing would be expensive, and prepaid processing is not helpful since there are ...

Ektachrome 100D questions

So I recently acquired a Bolex B8 to get into shooting regular 8mm (I've shot a few carts of Super 8 in the past). I got the camera fixed and CLA'd by bolexrepair.com and I thought I'd be able to get some 50ASA color reversal film to shoot with, but I was mistaken. The only color reversal film I ...

and I just bought my 8mm camera! I was hoping to get some color 50asa but can't find it anywhere. Better stock up if you can...

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

I'm going to answer my own question. Cameratech, I just reviewed your repair blog and yes there is supposed to be a spring clip on the take up spool, you can see it in several of your photos. Mine must have snapped off, leaving that "slot". No wonder the take up spool wouldn't hold any pressure ...

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

Ok here's a pic of the camera showing the take-up spindle if this helps. That slot in the sleeve takes the film spool spline I guess. Is there supposed to be a spring clip or something there? Does this look normal?

Re: Bolex D8l rubber roller question

In my B8VS it doesn't spin at all. Kinda suspecting it's not supposed to, but I don't know much about these cameras.

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

Thanks for the input cameratech and Mmechanic. Regarding the spools, it's a bit confusing, but I'm assuming the "1" is supposed to be up for the first run through and the "II" or "2" for the second after you flip the spools. The metal spool that came with the camera appears to be identical on both ...

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

OK so I shot my first half roll of 8mm yesterday and went to flip the spools this morning and have discovered problems. Even though the film counter showed the film past the 25ft point, and I ran it for 10 secs after to be sure that all the film was on the take up spool, when I opened the camera (in ...

Re: More film clips

Thanks for posting, I've been wondering about the quality of regular 8mm vs super 8, and I went ahead and got an old regular 8mm camera. This footage is reassuring, it looks very crisp. Obviously you did a good job with the telecine, but the footage also looks very good.

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

So I went ahead I did it, got a Bolex B8 and a Revere P90 projector off craigslist yesterday. I looked at bolexcollector.com to acquaint myself first, and the camera checked out nicely. The spring wound up 11 turns and it advanced the film counter past 6 ft. The manual (the original came with the ...

Re: Regular 8mm or Super 8?

Thanks for the thoughtful response Charlie. I suppose for hobby use either format will work. I'm in the US and film availability seems limited in both formats - purchase and processing is limited to the same few labs. Kodak just stopped making 100D, which was the heralded replacement for Kodachrome ...

Regular 8mm or Super 8?

Hi folks I'm trying to decide what direction to go with my film making. I am a camera nerd, and I got into cine film a few years ago. I got a few Super 8 cameras from that well known internet auction site and shot a few rolls. Strictly home movie family stuff. My town actually had a movie film lab ...
