Roger:
Do you still have plans for specialized gates? We occasionally run into films with a curl or other warping that just don't run well through the Universal. We can capture them, but focus goes in and out among other issues.

Re: Retro 8 retro scan playback isssue
Roger can probably help you more than I can, but will try.....are you exporting as .mov file or image sequence? If as .mov, try image sequence to make sure your capture file isn't corrupted.

Re: Warped film on Retro-8 scanner
More great tips! Thanks so much. I've heard of others using Flycap2 with the Retro-8, but I checked into on PointGrey's site and it looks fairly complicated. I will definitely look at it again, though.

Re: Warped film on Retro-8 scanner
Thanks for the reply! The areas around the sprocket holes are black (reversal). I'm still experimenting. Appreciate the tip about Resolve, I'll look into it.

Warped film on Retro-8 scanner
Here I am back to get help and ideas from the experts! I've been using th e Retro-8 now for over 2 years. Has worked like a breeze until my current project. The films have some minor sprocket hole damage, but I don't think that is the trouble issue. The films also seem to be slightly warped or waved ...

I contacted Brad with Film Tech and he stated that FilmGuard will be back in stock within a couple of months. You had me worried there......

Doug:
I apply the FilmGuard manually with PEC pads and I generally do 200' at a time. The FilmGuard is VERY slow drying and will remain wet on the film for days to weeks (although I'm sure it's not, it has an oil-like look and smell).
As I mentioned, the trick is not to overapply as that may cause ...

Re: Poor man's wetgate
Thanks. I know that Roger did place two holes in the cabinet on one side for the user to mount accessories of their own design. Not being an engineer, I had to come up with my own solution (manual application of a slow drying cleaner/lubricant).

Poor man's wetgate
Through other users (including VideoFred) I've recently been using what I term a "poor man's" technique for wetgating and wanted to share it with those interested.
I began to experiment a bit because some of the footage I've been transferring lately has very intrusive base scratches. It's a fairly ...

Re: Capturing Magnetic Super 8 Sound
I run line out from the projector as .wav file and use Premiere to sync by shot. It can be difficult to maintain sync over time, but you generally won't run into trouble for 30-60 seconds at a go. I've sent details to you via email.

Re: Scanning artifact?
Scratch the unsharp mask idea, it isn't that. The junction color is there prior to applying Neat and unsharp mask--just not as clear. The only common factor is increasing the luminance of a darker scan.

Re: Scanning artifact?
After a bit more research, I think this might be an unwanted result of my new best friend: the unsharp mask in After Effects. I'm working on a solution and will post same when it's worked out.

Scanning artifact?
Guys:
I've noticed that some of the Super 8mm Ektachrome 160 reversal prints that I've scanned have this strange green hue at the junction of shadows and midtones--especially at the junction of skin and hairlines. Generally seen with indoor shots. Anyone else experienced this and have any ...

Re: Non-Customer Sagas and other adventures....
You might accuse Roger of anything I don't know about, but being "difficult" and "unfair" would not be among them! I think he goes above and beyond in terms of valid customer support. Sounds like he was more than willing to go above and beyond in this non-valid case as well. I would never dream of ...
