I've been transfering film to 24p video on a DVX100 at work. We do all of the motion picture film transfer for Qualex.

We figured out how to do good realtime film transfer out of necessity because of the need to transfer 16mm sound film. If you put the camera in 24p mode and set the synchro scan to ...

I like the dreamlike quality of 18fps. Super 8 at 18fps is definately a distinctive look. If you want to make your Super 8 look more like 16, it's worth shooting at 24fps.

There's no flicker at 18fps if it's transferred at 20fps. I think the slightly accelerated frame rate is one of the key ...

It's possible that the internal meter is calibrated for T-stops and they'll come out the same.
Adam

Super 8 cameras always read in T-stops. It's at the back end of the equation. That's one of the beauties. The task is to learn the bias of the camera you are using.

The 1014 XL-S shows F1 ...

I want to shoot some nighttime tests with the 500T... probably some streetlight/storefront environments.

The way I figure it, I'll put a light on my subject that's just bright enough to give F2.8 with an external incident reading. At that F-stop, the fast film will give a reasonable exposure to the ...

I would simply use the internal meter as my starting point and then calibrate the external meter accordingly.
Rick

Right, like take a gray card reading with the internal meter and compare to your external reading. I also got a 1014 XL-S recently and I'd like to hear about your findings. It's ...

Switching the current Ektachrome stock to 100D sucks. The only thing I like about the current stock is that it's just fast enough to shoot indoors under lights. Color corrected under tungsten, it would be slower than K-40.

If you are shooting under controlled conditions why not use HMI's or ...

Ziplock bags are polypropylene, so they're fine to use.

A "frost free" freezer has a lot less moisture than a fridge, so that's the tiebreaker in my book.

I don't see the point. There should be one reversal stock for daylight and ...

I can see Kodak replacing K-40 with K-64 someday. Just about everyone uses K-40 in daylight anyway, so it's not a big deal to go to a daylight balanced stock. Anyone who shoots super 8 in this day and age would be smart enough to know not to use the in-camera 85 filter.

Will precision pressure plates fit in new Kodak S8 carts?

Forgive me if this has been brought up already. It's been mentioned that Kodak designed new cartridges that are supposed to hit the streets with the Vision2 500T film. I was thinking about getting a precision pressure plate, but I don't want to buy one if they changed the in-cartridge pressure plate ...

I only recently found this board, so nobody knows me here. But I'm definately not "starting rumors". I posted info that I was told over the phone by someone in Kodak's technical department practically word-for-word.

I agree that Kodak is a big company and people don't often know what's really going ...

Maybe the warehouse cracked an old case by accident. Hopefully the technical people were just being dicks so they didn't have to take my expired rolls back. They don't like taking returns at Kodak no matter what. I'd rather shoot expired rolls than see the stock discontinued.

But I do remember a ...

Kodak just told me K-40 is discontinued

Last week I ordered some Kodachrome rolls direct from Kodak. Yesterday when they arrived I was surprised to find that the rolls they sent me were expired. They were marked "process by 3/2004".

I'm sure the rolls are safe to shoot, but I called them today anyway. They put me through to the ...
