Re: Regular 8mm Black & White Print
I have had self slit film jamming in some of my projectors before which I finally put down to the film slitter I was using, the same as what you have in the video.
I measured and compared some of my self slit film and it turned out the variations in width were intolerable, up to 0.75 mm difference ...

Re: Who's Left Shooting 16mm?
I am using S8, R8, DS8 and 16mm, a few reels per year.
My 16mm cameras are a Krasnogorsk 3, a Bell & Howell 240 and a Victor III with a Dallmeyer f2.9 lens from 1933 and it still works well with 2R film.

I use Amaloco 6006 paper developer 1+4, it is the same as Kodak's multigrade paper developer.
First development 12 minutes and second development 6 minutes using the first developer again.

Re: Home scanning
Yes, on feeling the beginning of the film it is definitely warped a little bit. Something must have happened as you say.

Re: Home scanning
Yes, it looks the same on the screen when projected at normal speed. I have a nice Eumig P8 projector just for regular 8mm films.
The main difference I see in the scan is slightly blown out highlights. I scan with the "intelligent contrast control" on the video camera to try and compensate a bit.

Re: Home scanning
Interesting idea. The film is on a 200ft spool with a 50mm. diameter core.
I'll have to see if I have any larger core spools tomorrow.
Next week on vimeo, I'll put up another scan of a film that is in a better condition, just to compare.

Re: Home scanning
No, I believe the focus affect is from the original, I lock the video camera focus on manual after focusing and the film gate is good. I set the film in the gate by hand, not by automatic feed.

Re: New FILM9 software fails
My curiosity awakened, I tried to start up my Film9 2.01 and it asked me (in French) if I would like to update to Film9 2.02. I had no problem with the new install. I am running windows 8.1.

I also have a Quarz 1x8S-2 and yes, the apertures are indicated in the viewfinder. I am sorry but I have no idea what can be wrong with your camera.
I have bought several Russian cameras in the past, Fed, Quarz, Kiev, Krasnogorsk, Horizon, Zenit etc. and most were very good to excellent. A couple ...
