Re: Advantages, if any, to working in Regular 8mm

I just like the reliability of a regular 8mm camera. No carts jamming or dead capacitors to deal with but if the clockwork camera is not taken care of it can be just as bad with slow speeds or take up reel failure. I keep an old roll of film that came in one of the cameras I bought as a test roll to ...

Re: For those who want R8 tri-X, COMMIT!

I use regular 8 as much or more than Super 8 but I can't commit $1000 to keep it alive. Somebody will fill the gap if there is enough need and at this point I hope it's not kodak. It sure doesn't feel like they are reorganizing as much as it feels like they are shutting down. They are much too large ...

Re: Walmart ceases Super 8 processing

$4.50 to send something to Kansas seems pretty fair since you can't ship it cheaper yourself. I think even raising/feeding and training a pigeon to carry it would cost more in the long run :D . We should be happy it is offered at all anymore considering my phone shoots HD as well as fakes Super 8 ...

This flicker set shows me and a buddy doing just what you mentioned. It was 30 year old Tri X or Plus X so we shot a 100' reel and processed it in D76 in my basement darkroom used a stop bath of water then fixed it. Crude transfer ...

Re: Bolex P4 light meter

This says fully automatic with manual override so you could just use a light meter or sunny sixteen rule

Re: regular 8 TRI-X

I'm also confused by all of this. It says this on Wiki.

Kodak ceased sales of standard 8 mm film in the early 1990s, but continued to manufacture the film, which was sold via independent film stores. Black-and-white 8 mm film is still manufactured in the Czech Republic, and several companies buy ...

Re: 8mm tri-x discontinued

Does this mean no B&W 16mm film at all from Kodak? Plus-x has been gone awhile and I assumed Tri-X would stick around longer. I'm guessing this "restructuring" is truly the end for them.

The easy answer is buy/borrow a reliable external light meter and use it exclusively. :)

Manual here

If it's real quiet that might be a good thing but most likely it needs lubed. They will be louder with film in them but not terribly.

Since the person you bought it from obviously knew nothing about it here is some helpful info.

and the manual

You'll see they suggest lubing it every three years. I doubt if it's EVER been lubed and now it's 50 years ...

Re: Thoughts on Modern Cameras

I think you've hit the nail on the head with the original post. It's quite confusing with codecs, compression and so on. If only people cared as much about story/script as they do image quality we'd be better off.

Re: This just blew the Digital Bolex project out of the wate

I can only assume that anytime now there will be a complete collapse in the digital imaging market. I can't imagine the market can maintain this many manufacturers doing this much R&D and trying to undercut each other on price for much longer.

Re: Film appears extremely light?

Overexposed? Does the Fstop iris work? Can you see it actually open and close if you alter the Fstop? What FPS are you shooting at and what speed "ASA" is the film you're shooting? These old cameras were made for ASA 10,25,40 so 100 or higher can get tricky to expose correctly. You might need a ...

Re: Ektachrome stopping at 48 feet or so

I have several super 8 and two carts of 100d. I tried running old (25 year old) Kodachrome through several and it jammed in all of them. I figured it was the cart on that one. I have a Sankyo as well and its a good camera. It's amazing what decades old grease can do in a camera. I have some old ...
