Thanks for the follow-up! The lens coating isn't 100% clear so it's a dead deal.

That's a big help Adam, thanks. Is your lens coating perfectly, 100% clear when examined under bright light at all angles? This one has two tiny translucent spots and what might be some difficult to notice specks of fog. (Dare I say fungus?) The lens seems to have a haze at the sun, but that might ...

Canon 1014 XL-S lens

Do these naturally have a very noticable blue/purple lens tint to them when viewed at angles from the front? Curious, because my Bauer's are not like that at all (relatively tint-free except for a tad bit of warmness). I'm wondering if the Canon's lens coating is going bad or something.

That actually brings up the issue of how film is being handled immediately before and after the transfer by any "professional" service. I have a feeling many reels are left piled up next to an open window, plate of half-eaten peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and a cup of old coffee, etc., etc..

I ...

Also check the batteries in your Bauer. Don't even think about rechargables...even when fully charged! I was getting carts I thought were finished or stuck, etc., and then I did a battery change and bingo...they worked fine. You probably should make sure they're greater than or equal to 1.5V

Ebay Bolex in the Skin Care catagory!

I get a chuckle from some of the silly ebay auctions brought to our attention on here, but this one is a real humdinger!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270068504057&fromMakeTrack=true

Titled: "Bolex H16 SBM 16mm Movie Camera As New - Never Used"

But listed in category: "Health ...

Thanks for the info....especially about the serial number tell-tale.

I'd like to order some R8 film now since I'll definitely be getting a camera for it soon. Is the Cine Chrome 40 K14 Regular 8 x 25ft from Dwayne's a good choice? (I'd like as little grain as possible for this; smooth and deep.)

Is there any significant difference between the H8 REX 4 and the earlier non-reflex H8 models if I'm happy to use an add-on reflex lens?

Looking at the excellent http://www.bolexcollector.com site, I only note that some have different variable speed settings...but I can live with that. What I ...

R8 Camera Suggestions, or pipe dream?

Somebody on here once suggested a Bauer C2A as my first film camera...and it was great advice. I now have three of them (those plastic handles love to split!) and I've made loads of transfers using a WorkPrinter.

But with all of the transfers that I've done of other people's footage, I can't help ...

Roger, regarding the difference in aspect ratio between super 8 and the various High Definition formats, I guess there will be a black space on the left and right of the image? To some people, this might look a little odd but I guess it's something we'll all have to get used to when viewing super 8 ...

Since the green line is in the QT movie file (rather than being part of the web page), can't you just crop it out via QT Pro?

I think we should wait until Novemember before asking them for specifics!

"The Catapult will be available in late 2006 and will be priced under $300.' / "Specifications subject to change without notice"

It's that last line that makes me want to wait until this thing is actually entering ...

That is interesting. HDV? Might be a great fix to up the res on my WorkPrinter. By the way, Bella made the Final Cut Pro keyboard on which I'm now typing (via buying out a company that used to be called POST-OP Video).

Dito...I have 3 Bauer C2As, and I've seen that lens listing from Israel many many many times for at least a year. They either have lots of them, or they don't get charged per listing due to having an ebay storefront or something.

Now if they had spare plastic grip handles...that would be great ...
