I'm not sure if he still does it, but Les Bosher used to service Arri cameras. He doesn't advertise this on his website, but you could call him.

I think the answer to your question (if I've understood it correctly) is no. Generally, 16mm prints of commercial releases had an optical soundtrack - variable area or variable density. Magnetic sound-striped 16mm film is less commonly found and was used when it was desirable to be able to record ...

Adoyle has made his feelings about The Widescreen Centre quite clear in the title he chose for the thread; I would be sorry if others, especially those who have not dealt with them in the past, were put off dealing with them in the future because of his experiences. My own have been rather different ...

Yes, I'm planning to go to the Lumen event too, although I'm still working on the logistics of getting to Leeds and back! Hope to see you there.

One more small detail: Nizos use a secondary meter cell to determine the frame speed in "Autom. B" mode - it is situated below the name plate and above the lens. If you have a lens hood fitted, it is a good idea to remove it so that it doesn't block the light hitting the cell.

Shouldn't that just be (Boo!) if you're using digital, Clive?

How about life expectancy - stability/colour-fastness/shelf-life? After all, Kodachrome seems to outperform most others in this respect.

You can buy these lenscaps from Wittner Kinotechnik in Germany; go to http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katal ... optike.php and scroll to the bottom of the page - you'll find them listed there (you need the 65mm version). They even have the Schneider logo on the front!

I also use Pedro's pulse synch box, with a Nizo 6080 and a Sony MD walkman. I often just leave the minidisc in continuous record mode while I am filming intermittently; that way I get lots of useful atmos in between the synched audio sections.

Well, if I were Aleksandr Sokurov, I'd have chosen super-8 for Russian Ark: now that would have been a challenge.
